My wife Lee says a mystery with a twist. Now that is specific. So she is clearly an Agatha Christie fan.

TA I can throw stuff on the wall but I have a tough time cleaning up the mess. I would love to collaborate. I really need to read your most recent book to get a feel for your writing. Please tell me again the title so I can order it

Thaw's Hammer. The thing about nanowrimo is you don't clean up the mess. To get to 50,000 words in 30 days, you have to turn off the left side of your brain. Just let it flow, no matter how ugly (and, trust me, it can get very ugly)

I'm currently rereading " Boonville" which I find outrageously funny, but you either have had to live there or have a warped sense of humor. I'm not sure which, since I fit the bill on both counts. If jaybee reads it, she'll let me know

Within a 6 month period of time, every male Member of Congress, the Cabinet, and the President and Vice President mysteriously develop advanced metastatic prostate cancer.

It starts out slowly. Then the suspense and mystery build. The scientific, social, personal, and political themes are developed as more and more cases are identified. How and why could such a thing happen?Lines are drawn around medical specialties, treatments, prioritization of resources, and access to researchers and clinical trials. Various victims, heroes, villains, and other characters emerge. The NSA, CIA, DoD, Homeland Security, EPA, NIH, and the FDA all get deeply involved. The whackos and conspiracy theorists and religious extremists react exponentially. Strange rites and rituals involving prostate symbolism arise. As some die or are replaced by other males, they, too, are stricken by metastatic prostate cancer. Soon, the demographics of Congress and the senior Executive Branch begins to shift towards females. Other unexpected twists and turns and intrigues happen in response to the strange phenomenon. What will happen next? Will it resolve? Will it ever be explained? Was anything learned? ....

I know one thing. Whatever you come up with, time constraints and all, it will be good stuff.

Curiously, we had a similar discussion on this very topic, that is, coming up with ideas for a novel, back in August 2013. The idea was to suggest story ideas for Purgatory, our other successful resident novelist, to write about:

I think we had some fun with that, and Purg was okay with the idea of our suggesting plot lines to him.

I'm not sure if David ever followed up on any of them, but the ideas are still there in that thread, and maybe some are worth another look now. I seem to remember that some of them did seem like possibilities.

So, for whatever they're worth, maybe a good novel really could come out of one or two of them, and they're worth another look.

At the very least, you should get a chuckle out of some of them!
