Zytiga Advice

Been lurking quite awhile and reading, My husband has had prostate cancer for ten years now. I realize I'm lucky to still have him with me. He has choose not to read anything about this I guess that's why he has lived so long not thinking about it. We went to Wake Forest in September on my insistence because the doctor here didn't want to do anything and his PSA is jumping. It was 15.44 9/2 and 9/15 it 19.1. She didn't want to see him again till 12/2/17. He saw his primary care doctor last week and he was shocked she hadn't followed up with him already. He called the cancer center here and had his appointment moved to next week. The nurse called yesterday to tell him his oncologist wanted to do Provenge and he is against it and told her he would be willing to try Zitiga. She called back and said they would set that up and call him to come in for counseling next week sometime. He was due a Lupron shot Tuesday next week but she said it has been cancelled and he no longer had to have it. My question is are you not supposed to add Zytiga with the Lupron. Any advise from you all would be appreciated as I feel this doctor does not have his best interest at heart.

Thanks for your response. Have no faith in his doctor. I am wondering why my profile is not showing so you can see his test results. I guess 10 years with stage 4 with bone mets we have been lucky. Maybe we can get a couple of more years with Zitiga as I am praying.

He is 64. He has done well up until this past year and I'm afraid he is just sick and tired of feeling bad. Plus all the side effects of Lupron has taken its toll. He is dead set against the Provenge but I'll keep mentioning it. His also has Cardiomyopathy and a pacemaker/diffibulater. He did have a years break from Lupron, his doctor thought that it was bad on his heart. Ejection fraction got down to 27 percent but now at 40 percent not great but better. I will contact the doctor at wake forest and get him to call the doctor here about stopping the Lupron.

He is hormone resistant now. This is the second time in ten years. After his radiation Dr Thomas at wake forest thought the new cells circulating would respond to Lupron again which they did and we got an extra two years from that. Now its rapidly rising again. He's mets are now in hips, spine, shoulders and he is really feeling bad. Just praying the Zitiga works but he is just tired of fighting this stuff.

Thanks all for your advice. I have been reading this forum for years now and knew from what I have read this doctor is wrong about stopping his Lupron. I have done all the research while he has chosen not to read or learn anything about his cancer, we all choose to handle things in our own way. I really don't know if he will listen but will try. I told him last night I disagreed about stopping the Lupron but he is at the point now he is ready to give up. I called to see if he could see another doctor at the cancer center and told them why. He said he will stick with her because it really doesn't matter at this point. His heart is so bad the heart doctor said he won't be able to take chemo.

She has tried but the Effexor did not work. It seems if there is a side effect to anything that is tried he has it. I strongly believe if you have heart issues hormone therapy intensifies it. When he took a break from Lupron his heart improved greatly.

Firmagon has never been suggested as opposed to Lupron. You can lead a horse to water well you know the rest. Because he refuses to make himself aware of what he needs to do or what treatments are available to him this has become way frustrating to me. His cancer care has all but done me in. I was pretty sure Lupron and Zytiga went hand and hand and I thank you all for reinforcing that for me. I told him I disagreed with the doctor and got the deer in the headlight look.
