I've never noticed any side effects for the 15,000 units I take every day.

Wow! I need to have mine re-checked. I have not done so since I cut back from 10K to 5K after I measured 80. I had previously measured 30 on 2K/day.

For most people, Dr. Holick recommends being in the 40 to 60 range. If you want to go outside that range, a consult with you doctor would be advised.

I've been taking more than 5K IU for over 18 months. No side effects other than healthier skin. Everyone is different on this so testing is the only way to know what is really going on. Dr. Moyad has stated that there is not enough controls on how labs test for Vitamin D, but until they do, that's all we have.

You're probably not going to notice kidney impairment until it happens, then it's usually rather catastrophic. Monitor for elevated creatinine in your annual physical.

And of course, keep your physician fully informed of every prescribed medication and OTC you take.

It seems as modern humans migrated north they evolved lighter skin. One theory is that in areas of reduced sun the skin needs to be lighter to allow production of enough Vitamin D.
As an aside, we all know that those with darker skin are more prone to prostate cancer
