Awesome 'Movember' News for GG! (and a question if I may)...

Hi Everyone

Really hope you're all doing well. I've seen lots of newbies arrive since we joined HW in 2016 - it's hard to believe this journey is 1 year and 4 months in for us. Sometimes it seems like only yesterday and other times it feels as though we've lived lifetimes since GG's diagnosis and subsequent tx. We've really had some ups and downs dealing with this cr@p, and I know you all "get it", which is why we've been so grateful for this forum, and particularly the wise counsel of folk like TA, who talked us off the ledge in the early days. And I guess, in many ways, it still IS early days on this journey. But let's just say we've settled into a rhythm with it, and are getting better at managing the cyclic PSA anxiety etc.

Today was one of the good days! GG got another round of test results today, which revealed an undetectable (<0.01). Unbelievable! We were both expecting a rise, so this was a total blindside (of the best kind!).

GG's uro told him he doesn't want to see him for another 6 months, which took me back a little. As far as I know, particularly with his high-risk stats, he should be tested every 3 months for 2 years, then six monthly after that (until the five year mark); then yearly. When I questioned him on this he was adamant, and said that getting tested every 3 months just led to PSA anxiety, and that it was absolutely not necessary at this point in time. Hmmmm. GG, of course, was thrilled, but me not so much. It made me a little bit 'squirmy'. When we left the office, I made his next appointment for the end of March (we're hoping to take some leave in April), but that still seems too far off at this point in time.

While I'm ecstatic about his results (obviously!), I'm a little anxious at waiting almost 5 months for his next test.

Great news! Undetectable! Very happy to hear your update!

Remember that you are the "captain of your own ship" ... so if you want more visits to the lab, for your own peace of mind, by all means, do so ...

My oncologist watches over my case very carefully ... he watches over things carefully, since I'm on ZYTIGA. So, I check into the lab each month. It does assure me that we are staying right on top of things, in case a change in course is required. Each case is different ... and we all need to find our own comfort zone. In my case, my doctor keeps track of many other components besides just PSA.

Know that you can go "offline" and pay for own PSA test. And you might even be able to use your existing lab.
Or just tell your Dr. you want the test every 3 months...
