Hard to believe I'm posting here, but my husband, age 40, has some alarming numbers. He had a PSA test done in August as part of his routine blood work. PSA was 5.3. 10 days of antibiotics, retest...still 5.3. Referred to a urologist, 28 days of antibiotics, another PSA...this time it spiked to 8.7. Free PSA was 9.6%. in 2010--8 years ago---he had a CT scan for something unrelated, and it showed an enlarged prostate. All DRE have always been normal, other than noting an enlarged prostate. He will be having a biopsy in the next few weeks...so plenty of time for me to panic and go through all the scenarios. My main question is...could he have had PC 8 years ago....they never did a PSA then..he was only 30 at the time. However, if his enlarged prostate was caused from PC way back then, would his numbers be higher now? I know it can be a slow growing disease...but can it be THAT slow growing?
Also hard to find info on Dr. Google about
low free PSA numbers and what can cause a low number, other than PC.
As my name suggests, I have turned into a total crazy person over this....we have small kids, and I worry that this has been going on behind the scenes and his biopsy will show that he has cancer everywhere that is incurable, inoperable, etc. Anxiety is not my friend.
Any help, advice, kindness is greatly appreciated. Thank you for listening to my thoughts/fears.
