I’m finally coming out of my weekend chemo crash #1 of six. PSA was 2.81 when chemo started, down from 58 before 3 months of lupron And casodex and CBD oils. Here’s the basics:
Tuesday steroids
Wednesday infusion
Thursday steroids and nuelasta shot. Went to work and worked out Thursday. Friday work from home no SE
Saturday. No energy. Late afternoon developed fever though never exceeded 101.5. But fever stayed all night and into Sunday. We called DR and they said to go to ER
ER Sunday AM showed no problem with blood, WBC fine, no flu. Loads of joint pain, but taking Claritin and Motrin and Tylenol
Sunday night constipated big time. Don’t make that mistake folks, keep track of what’s normal movements and get a LAX at the first indication.
Monday DR visit he’ll not give me another nuelasta shot since it likely caused fever next time I’ll come in for blood work the week after infusion to check WBC etc and give small shots as needed.
Tuesday. Went to work for around 6 hours. Really tired after. Fever gone until 7pm when it went to 99.9. Three hours and two Tylenol ES and it’s all gone. More to follow. Tomorrow will be better. Thanks for listening and supporting us all.

Good luck to you Steve - sounds like you have a great attitude about all this. You will be through with this treatment before too long.

Happy to share my experiences slightly ahead of yours. I think I was dragged down on weekend #1 from a persistent fever that began Sat afternoon, an ER visit Sunday AM and Sunday night constipation which took 7 hours to get resolved. My Monday was pretty much shot though I worked a bit from home. Tuesday a was very weak in the AM— and had I not had a big meeting 11-1 PM that day, i’d Have stayed home. But I got through it. Should note that working from home yesterday and today has been fine — but again, fatigue is there. I think the next “Tuesday After” might be better.
I hope to get to the gym today and see what happens. I am a 3-4 x / week work out guy, cardio and weights. Worked out day after chemo (after being in the office that day), but haven’t done any exercise since then.
It have a rather big job managing tech for a large organization and will navigate through the treatments to minimize PTO at work. The other big thing is when you’re in your big presentation, will those in the room know your condition? In my Tuesday meeting they didn’t and that made it harder. After the meeting I had a coming out session where I told all the firm’s key leaders and my direct team. This is important - it’ll probably be must easier if people know.

Mr. Bill and Chuck... funny my hair came back thicker and wavy, especially in the back. My wife loved it but it only lasted about 4 months or so and then straighten out again. I figured it was the Taxotere wearing off. Take care. —JR

Wanted to send a few words of encouragement and support, as you begin your TAXOTERE chemotherapy treatments.

There are MANY members here who have pursued chemotherapy treatments, and we are here for you.

I was in the first wave of fellows who pursued what became nicknamed "the early chemo plan" following my diagnosis.

With each ensuing treatment, I watched my PSA drop to the lowest level I had ever experienced, since I was diagnosed. That was very encouraging.

I know each fellow's experience can vary with chemo treatments. In my case, I was able to stay active, and kept working full-time. I was able to exercise and keep up with social events. I know I was fortunate in that.

Along the way, my family, friends, and faith remained my cornerstones.

Over time, many of us here banded together and put together an informative thread on this website to help others who are just getting started on chemotherapy treatments.

The thread will give you insight into ways you can navigate through the rest of your treatments, and also suggest ways to mitigate side effects, along the way.
