I am 5 weeks post-op from RALP. A few days ago I was feeling a bit of a bulge down there and some abdominal discomfort. Had an ultrasound today and it's a "fat containing" inguinal hernia.

Whoopie!!

I'll talk to the Dr. tomorrow and see what happens next.

Me too, sorting out treatment options. Had it since 2010, but recently having problems.

I have an umbilical one-came about 6 months post-op. Luckily no symptoms and I am able to do all my ab exercises.

I had one repaired a year ago...inguinal that's the one that has a twin on the other side ...right?

I do not think that has to be done right away get second opinin..you should not have to deal with that so soon although you might...discuss the need thoroughly with surgeon...laproscopic is the way to go if possible good luck

Same for me. Hernia after robotic prostate removal. General surgeon, who I saw for hernia, told me he sees' a great deal of these after robotic prostatectomy. Maybe it goes with the territory. If you do get it fixed be careful what they use. Some of the mesh patches have been failing, resulting in a class action.

It only needs to be fixed if it is symptomatic.

The teaching used to be all hernias were an automatic fix based on the perceived risk of having a hernia.

Newer studies following people with asymptomatic hernias found only about 7% required surgery so 93% of the time, hernias were being fixed unnecessarily.

And, if you develop a hernia on one side, there is a 10% risk of hernia on the other side -- so 90% chance there is no hernia on the other side so routine exploration looking for a hernia has also fallen out of favour.
