I like many knew very little about my prostate until I was diagnosed. We have a responsibility to help our fellow men learn and be informed. I am participating in a Prostate Awareness run 6/30/18. How elese can we help spread the word?

Hi Subdenis. As a fellow runner and PC fighter I share your advocacy to get the word out. I wrote on article on the subject for my monthly newspaper column when I was diagnosed. I volunteer with two state-level PCa organizations as my own health permits, although my really active days of working health fairs and information booths are over now. But check with a local cancer-oriented hospital, and see what state or national organizations (such as USToo) may be active in your home area. I can guarantee that any time you can offer to groups that do these sorts of activities will be greatly appreciated.



On a side note, we can discuss being active with other organizations here, but we can not discuss fund-raising for others, as our own HW here needs donations for operating expenses. This has gotten some into trouble in the past, so I'm mentioning it to avoid that.

I just did the Dad's Day 5K run in downtown Houston on Saturday. This is my fourth year as a survivor, but I ran it in honor of my dad and in memory of both of my grandfathers and two uncles. I always take pictures of the run and then post that on social media and encourage guys to get tested yearly. I think if we all do our little bit we will get the word out!

I can't run any more -- my knees simply will not tolerate it.

So, I'm doing my bit in a different way. Tomorrow we will be shooting (they don't use video tape anymore) an interview with me and then with me and my RO. The video will become part of a public awareness program to be aired by our local TV station. It is a joint effort between the hospital where I had my SBRT and the TV station. When they were looking for a PCa patient who did a lot of homework, could speak as an intelligent layman, and was willing to do the interview, my RO put my name in the hat.

I'm going to try to get a copy of the finished program segment to add to the library of the support group I attend. I think it's quite cool, really.
