Binx, welcome, sorry to hear about your dads diagnosis. G9/10 is a tough one, but with todays treatments is certainly manageable.
Assuming you've already explored all options, and are set on surgery, i think pre-op the most important thing, is exercise. For about 6 weeks prior to my surgery, i walked 4 miles almost every day, and regularly did crunches and planks to build my core. I believe this helped me in my recovery. There's not much else to it, other than losing some weight if he is overweight.
After treatment, same thing... move around a lot. But you've got time for that. Regarding the cconstipation specifically, i took Dulcolax twice a day for about 3 weeks after surgery and it was very helpful in keeping stools somewhat soft and easy to pass. The first 4 days or so, i didnt pass any stools, so i asked my wife to go out and get me a bottle of prune juice. After that, it was bombs away within an hour.
Lots of guys will be along with more info, I'l lleavemore to them. Including the advice to be sure you have explored all options including the various forms of Radiation as primary treatment. I hope you've done that, particularly with Gleason 10 in his biopsy.
Good luck and stick around, we will be here for you every step along the way.
