Hi Emmyu,
First off, I would like to say that I think that you are a wonderful daughter to your dad and that he is very lucky to have you in his life.
I understand why you feel that the doctor blew you off but generally they do not want to jump to conclusions before they have all the facts. Yes, a PSA of 170 is high but I have heard that prostatitis can push PSA that high. It's natural to worry and you are doing the right thing researching prostate cancer. It will give you a strong foundation to discuss with the doctor once there is conclusive evidence that he actually has cancer.
When I was first diagnosed, my PSA was high too and although his PSA is high, and if he does have cancer, there are plenty of treatments available to him. At 72 he has lived a long life and unless he has other co morbities, you can expect him to be around for longer. In October, I will celebrate my five year anniversary since diagnosis. That means that I have survived five years and am still doing well.
Wishing you and your father well.
