"Where no man has gone before"

I always liked that version.

They changed it, you know, to "where no one has gone before" in subsequent seasons, to make it more gender inclusive. I think it made it less interesting. "Where no man has gone before allows for a universe peopled by aliens and gods -- beings not of the race of man, however gendered. "Where no one has gone before" just makes it sound like nobody's out there.
