Diff'rent strokes for different folks. Personally I'm with you Jer... I don't like strife or contentiousness in any form. But what wears some of us down, others see as "healthy discourse".

So while some of us enjoy laying around listening to soothing music - esp since being on ADT, or surfing, others find a game of handball "invigorating". (I always wonder what the heck those people on the Peloton commercials get out of it.)

The current elephant in the room on this forum is that a number of members resent the special treatment they perceive that Tall Allen receives from the moderators and, to be fair, they have a point. I ran interference for him, for instance, on this thread because I thought it would be useful to have a discussion of Rule 3, its interpretation, and the issues surrounding it. That seems to have borne out, at least so far.

But, given the context in which the thread was started, coming soon after some of Tall Allen's comments on your thread were deleted as Rule 3 violations, some saw -- maybe still see -- this thread as Tall's starting another thread to argue that he had been justified. This left me in a bit of a quandary. Tall became impatient on your thread and stepped over the line. He made comments that represented clear Rule 3 violations. I wanted to mention that here but I wasn't sure you wished to be singled out. Now I can. Like I said, thanks.

I know that you are still cross about the other thread. Things may have gotten needlessly compounded but I don't want to get into that. The first offense was yours.

It's a little hard to know what one sounds like to other people when one is a bit peeved and trying to be reasonable. But in this case I think I can help. Just go and read the issues you list under section II above. While you are reading it, think about Kathy Bates in Misery. You sounded kind of like that.

All I ever wanted was for you and your husband to have the discussion. What you decide is up to you - all I can do is provide some input for the discussion. The way you wrote that post, you made it sound like you were going around your specialist doctor's recommendation to hear the recommendation you wanted to hear. It wasn't at all clear that your husband had much input. It now seems that I was only reacting to the way you wrote it, not what actually transpired. I am glad to hear that I was wrong, and apologize for any confusion I may have caused about it.

I have to respond publicly because you posted this publicly, and you guys continue to kidnap this thread to talk about "meta-posts' (posts about the writing of the posts) which I detest. Because I am the single largest poster on this site after Purgatory, I may be a frequent subject of discussion for the moderators behind the scenes (which I don't usually know about). Perhaps because of that, I do agree that I get "special treatment" from the moderators, but I don't think I get favored treatment. Quite the opposite. I think I am singled out for extra scrutiny and censure, and have noticed that my threads get locked when others cast ad hominems at me. (Hint to those who want to have my threads locked: say something nasty about me.) Some of you are allergic to all conflict, even when it is civil. Well, there are many controversial topics. And controversy and conflict is how issues get aired and examined. Get used to it.

The idea for this thread came about in an email with Pratoman. We were discussing his edits, and it occurred to me that there was a larger issue that was worth discussing. It has been discussed in my live PC support groups a number of times, and I thought it was worth discussing here too. It was not meant to get around any edits done by a moderator - in fact, I got pre-authorization from him to bring it up. He didn't object to Part II - that was the part he left in. Kathy Bates? Really?

It's becoming increasingly clear to me that Healingwell is not the right board for me, especially with the new heavy-handed moderator. I have been posting on healthunlocked.com "advanced prostate cancer" board. I reach a wider audience there, and the board moderator has been incredibly supportive. There are still conflicts and controversies (and sometimes angry responses, especially from those who advocate untested and possibly dangerous self-treatments), but there is no censorship (even politics and religion have come up without the world ending). I haven't decided yet.

I was previously unfamiliar with the site you mentioned (thanks), but it seems very likely that the single moderator approach makes a big difference with regard to CONSISTENCY in the interpretation and application of the “rules.” Here, interpretation and application vary widely (and are very predictable from moderator-to-moderator). The newest moderator is “142-like” on the predictability continuum. Your original post seemed, as I previously stated, to largely be a plea for CONSISTENCY in moderation.

Please Allen, don’t let such foolishness run you off. You do more good on this forum than even you realize. Newfound power can be terribly misplaced. You are THE man.
