Any one here like any of the Airplane or Starships music back in the day? I did. In addition to their hard rock, there were some really haunting and beautiful songs on "Surrealistic Pillow" and others. Another main most member, Paul Kantner, passed in 2016. I really liked some of their music about the time I was getting out of HS summer of 67. Summer of love! ;) I guess we are getting old.

I had Surrealistic Pillow on vinyl back in the day (in fact I still have the vinyl). I was on a solo cross-country road trip in the mid 90's and got off the highway to check out Iowa City. I found a CD of Surrealistic Pillow in a record store used bin. Played it over and over again for I don't know how many hundred miles.

It strikes me that, yes, we are getting old, every time one of “our guys’ bites the bullet. Relatively Recently two of my favorites, Greg Allman and Glen Frey, the latter which really hit me hard

Airplane for me too, driving NY to CA in summer of 1967. Lived in Sacramento two years, only a 90-minute drive from SF. USAF restricted my participation somewhat. Remember a good cover band for JA in Biloxi MS in 1969.

The future of Rock is interesting for me to speculate. While Rock isn’t dead, there ain’t much new stuff. In my younger days I never thought it would turn out this way. But that’s what I thought about a lot of things. 🙂

I know. "Today" and ""Comin' Back to Me", songs they are not as well known for, but to me, so beautiful. Maybe it is just because they will forever be associated in my heart and mind with my first love which began at the start of the summer of 67, with a girl visiting her brother for that summer, he was stationed at Ft. Benning, GA. A summer which was also had my first heartbreak when this girl I had fallen for moved back to Queen's, NY when school started. ( I had just graduated, she was still a junior or senior ) I listened to those songs on that album a lot that summer with her and the next fall without her, and I was really feeling them. So long ago.

I know, that's two more recently. It is getting pretty constant, and obviously will only get more so. My parents, and even my older brother(17 years older than me) hated most of "my" music, but I still think- 50 years later- a lot of it was great. I've always been surprised how so many of the younger generations like "my" music. You know, the music of not just their fathers but their grandfathers. I almost never cared much for my parents/grandparents music. Seemed natural, same as they did not like mine.

Airplane was my first live concert, and saw them many times after. Can't count the songs I loved. I had every album on vinyl... Baxters, CoC... even Takes Off. Later replaced them all with CD's which I ripped to an early 1GB Sansa MP3 player.

I was one of those weird guys in HS, while others were either Beatles or Stones, I was Airplane (ok, plus some Stones too).

It's always sad to realize how many people who were a major part of our lives are now gone... which makes us the lucky ones to still be around.

It's distressing to me that music has turned to what it is today. There were so many bands who wrote their own music that produced a great variety of music, especially in the 70's and 80's. Rock evolved from the 3 chord music of the 60's (it was fun though) to really great music with very talented musicians.

Did boy bands destroy the industry? Has downloading music killed the financial incentives of doing music? I wish I knew. Our lives revolved around this music and I believe society is less stable without it.

My Jefferson Airplane album disappeared while I was away in the Army (1968-70) after being drafted. I've never been able to get any one of my 5 brothers or my sister to 'fess up.

One day she was watching TV and called me into the room saying something like "who is this guy? he's great" Some guy sitting on a stool playing an acoustic guitar. I told her that guy was Neil Young and that there was a whole musical world over here in the colonies she really needed to learn about.

I'm pretty eclectic musically. Aside from all of the great rock bands already mentioned I was into the coffee house scene in Boston / Cambridge
in the 60s - the Club 47, the Unicorn, and some lesser joints out in the suburbs (would you believe the "Forum Five" in Andover?) - folk before it became folk-rock, Paul Butterfield Blues Band for a one dollar cover charge... And I also dig the music of my parents' generation, probably because I grew up listening to it on their radio stations - Duke Ellington, and my all time favorite of my parents' era - Stan Kenton -- who I think of as the Stravinsky of big band leaders because of all of his strange chords.

For Neil Young fans ,It’s purchase or rent only, concert video Heart of Gold with Emmylou Harris and others in Nashville 2006 is a must have for his later life works with a few acoustic oldies.

Want Somebody to Love blaring off my 4 track Muntz blue light player was the cause of many speeding encounters getting pulled over and a few tickets. Also Led Zeppelin and others like Blue Cheer. God we’re old smile I worked at Warners brother in engineering starting late sixties right out of high school and don’t remember a thing ;)
