The patient's choice of a skilled provider (whether surgeon or RO) is what I would call "table stakes." It's fundamental; and it's controllable.
The dimension of luck is not controllable, so the best thing is to stack the odds in your favor for the best possible outcome then go for it...which might mean no initial treatment, or your best choice for treatment for your individual case characteristics. There is no one-size-fits-all solution, despite what the the biased one-sided advocates espouse.
