Surgery October of last year. Down to a pad a day sometimes 2 but still drip when I get up. It’s tolerable but does it ever go away? Or are pads the new normal and I should keep a reserve in a pocket when I go out?

I use to the one pad or two every day after a year my surgeon and other surgeons have informed me that the drips not going away I'm due for the sling procedure any comments All replies are welcome I go in for the procedure tomorrow November 20th 2018 wish me luck and I will keep you guys informed

Good luck tomorrow Ubetternoit. I had the AUS about 18 months ago after my Uro told me that I was not a candidate for the sling. AUS still leaks a bit, and so I use 1-2 pads per day and also tend to have a bit less control since radiation. So here's hoping that everything goes well for you.

Ron most doctor and urologist tell me once you passed 9 months that it doesn't get better but I read on the threads that 2 to 4 years it could seeing how I'm a young man 54 years old so I'm going to go in for the sling procedure whereas I am a good candidate i will keep you posted

Thanks Peter I'm in the hospital doctor says everything went well except the catheter had a hard time pushing through the sling so he wants to add another day to be safe he said catheter needs to stay in an extra day.
Monday will be to long so maybe I get it out Thanksgiving. A little pain.

I've got advance sling went home Thanksgiving little hard urinating as the sling is pretty tight hoping it will get better no leakage

I'm wishing you well my Friend. After 5 years, my incontinence is the same, 1 pad a day, the dripping will be over I hope... I am scheduled for the Ad Vance Sling the last week of February, my RP was Jan 2014... still less than 0.04, my next PSA is the first week of February... so we shall see... This will be my Holiday Gift!!! Keep us posted. Can't believe I waited this long... what a long , strange trip it's been...

At home doing fine just a little leakage when I'm up on my feet work out moving around outside with no leakage at night call Urology seems to think it will get better I went from one pad to a small Shield I really don't need nothing at night

I'm very sorry to hear this, regarding your Ad Vance Sling procedure... My next consultation is 5 February for my incontinence, and the sling is being recommended by my Urologist, and Oncologist. Boy, this is troubling, can you tell me more of your problems, and experience? Sounded like all was well initially, then the adjustment... Was the sling removed completely, or was it loosened and remained in place... I have a ton of questions, but won't overwhelm you right now, sorry for your setback... I was on the brink 4 years ago from post op incontinence that I never expected, nor was I prepared for... My team and Wife tried to prepare me, but my Alpha Personality knew more than they did, and almost put me under....... Talk soon... Good luck, Bob

Tough break Tony. Did the doc not warn you about having sex while you were healing? So about the AUS, for most guys it seems to work well, but I would have to say for me it's just okay. You've read my story. I can't imagine still going thru eight pads a day, so I guess I'm fortunate in that regard. I wear one big pad in my loungewear and a small one in my briefs on days when I need to go out. Sometimes I can get an extra day out of one or both. So things could be a lot worse.

My Urosurgeon told me next to nothing about the AUS. Most of what I know was from research. Next month I see the him again and I'm trying to rehearse in my mind how I'm going to tell him that I will never be able to trust him with a knife ever again. I know stuff happens and anything can go wrong for anyone, but it seems to happen to me more often than the next guy. Except maybe you. :grin:

Yes them doctors don't tell you much at all I believe they were taught that Yes I notice that every time you go back in its mostly drips worst.

Olebeek why would you get a implant when you wasn't leaking and yes Roblee he didn't say nothing about sex I just was doing so good I didn't think it would hurt then again with a week out it might of just showed itself either way I should of knew better.

The implant I got was for erections.

We gotta be careful what terminology we use when speaking with ANYONE outside the small circle of prostate cancer patients. If I say "implant" they think I'm talking about the blow-up penis, so I say "artificial sphincter" instead. Usually they don't know what that means either, but it sounds complicated so that will usually suffice.

What's really surprising is the number of medical professionals who have never heard of an AUS, even though it is usually one of the questions they ask on a standard admission questionnaire. When I had bowel resection surgery a couple months ago several nurses wanted me to explain what it was and how it works. That's a good start. Even my gastroenterologist had never heard of one.

Also gotta be careful when we say "hormone therapy". They think we're taking a testosterone supplement. instead I say something like "hormone depletion". If they ask about that I say it's a kind of chemo. Not exactly accurate, but gets the message across.
