I'm at #27 of 44 IMRT (tomotherapy) the actual treatments as most know go very fast as they have many peeps lined up for treatments. the Tech mentioned yesterday #26 that the treatments were going to be a few seconds shorter,(I noticed no difference) because we are entering the "boost" phase. I didn't have a chance to ask him about that, but was wondering how the treatment differs from the other 25 treatments? I have some ?? to ask next time if I get a chance.. Ed

as I recall it's just a minor change in dosage/treatment time.

All part of the RO's plan.

That is a good question. I recall thinking that towards the end my treatments they seemed to be noticeably shorter.

At the end, your RO sometimes includes a "Boost" treatment where the beam is focused directly on your prostate bed and / or lymph nodes to give them an extra dose.. In the end, some parts will have gotten a little more radiation than others..Ask your RO the next time you see him...

Got an answer from the RO on this.. He said the previous sessions included the seminal vesicles. in the next phase the entire SV will not be included. (the 2 tips will be excluded) studies have shown that with my #'s the chances of spread to the very tips of the SV is very small so now the treatment will be condensed to the prostate and some of the SV area, but same GY each treatment. he said over treating the tips of the SV is a common cause of rectal SE's.. Much depends on whether the SVI is distal or direct, which can only be determined by dissection in a pathology lab.
