I had radiation for man boobs

After nearly eight years of hormone therapy I developed man boobs and very tender nipples. My radiation oncologist did five treatments, lasting only a short minute or two. Said give it a few months to see if it helps. He said 40% chance it would work to eliminate tenderness and almost certain to stop the boob growing. It left a rosey red appearance one each one, like a sunburn look, but no burning feel. I just wanted to pass this info along to others who might be experiencing this soreness.. and to say hello to everyone because it's been a while since I posted.

Thanks for the info....I am in a time when after my next blood test in two weeks if over .2 the Oncologist said he is going to want to do a Pet scan and start me on Lupron.... Been very worried about side effects.... How has the journey been, or any advice? Thanks

I also had radiation to my chest after about 6 months on Lupron. My nipple areas were tender and I didn’t want any growth to start. Like faustmann said, the treatments were quick, maybe 2 min. I had 6 grays each side, on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday for a total of 18 grays each side. Tenderness went away almost immediately. Red circles went away after about 3 weeks. For me it was a successful treatment process and I didn’t have any other tenderness or growth issues for the rest of my hormone therapy journey (1 more year).

SteveO... the best thing to do is notify your oncologist as soon as you feel any nipple tenderness as that is the start of gynecomastia and you don’t want tissue growth that will be difficult to treat.

Same here. I was just under the .2 last time, and it was showing a slow rise over the last year, so I'll more than likely be starting the Lupron too. I'm not looking forward to the side effects, especially since I'm already overweight and have chronic insomnia and memory problems.

I am 73,and overweight also.... low energy as it is.... hopefully with next blood test it went down....All this thanks to Agent Orange.....
