I started Chemo today (Taxotere). I am borderline diabetic, currently taking nothing to control the T2 diabetes per my PCP's recommendation. Diet and exercise have worked very well in the past, but it is very hard as my PC progresses, and I have always hated Metformin the 2 times I tried it.
As part of the pre-chemo treatment, I was given Dexamethasone to take before and after the infusion. This is primarily to help control possible swelling issues. I have used DEX in the past with phenomenal results for the cancer pain to my bone mets, but that was almost 4 yrs ago.
Today, my blood checks both showed a glucose reading of 370, while I would normally be 140 to 160. By nightfall, just prior to taking my second and last DEX pills for this cycle, I was at 192.
For now, we haven't adjusted treatment in any way, but will be doing more monitoring and a little more strictness to the diet/exercise thing. Fortunately, I feel so good on the DEX, that is a pleasure.
No real question here; I am just throwing it out there as I didn't see much in other threads about this particular issue and maybe it will help someone else.
