I had two slings first one slip second one not holding good enough so should I go ahead if the artificial sphincter? I'm in 5 pads a day 3 months out of the second surgery,6 months from the first one.

Ubetternoit, I won't suggest what you should do but I will share what I am doing.
I had RALP a little over a year ago. Since then I go through up to 5 of the heavy-duty pads per day depending on my activity level. I am VERY active. I just ran a half-marathon in Pittsburgh a week ago. I have lots of hobbies that require lifting, bending, crawling under things (auto-mechanics, woodworking, home improvement, etc.) and I leak like crazy when doing them. I took a ceramic class this past semester and the action of sitting at the wheel and centering the clay was a guarantee for bladder emptying.
I went through a few months of PT with a pelvic floor specialist and saw no change. My urologist said I could go with a sling or AUS but suggested the latter due to my activity level.
I did my research which included watching a video of the procedure and read lots of comments here and on another site.
I will have the AUS installed this coming Thursday.

Sounds good guys I think I am going to just go through it seems to be worth a try I was just in 1 to 2 pads and I was thinking the sling will work but I was still in pads my whole thing is getting out of pads I work at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Mississippi and I run up and down the line building brakes and shocks and I get real tired of them depends I got schedule for July if for some reason I get Miracle heal before then with this second sling which don't hold anything standing up but hold sitting down and laying down really got me confused but thanks for the feedback for sure

Ubetternoit, I too have gone back and forth on this. I don't leak when I am horizontal so sleeping is a dry event. Then I'll have days when I pee frequently enough that I don't go through many pads. Then I have a day like a week ago where I went on an industrial tour. I used the restroom as the beginning but after walking, standing, and getting in and out of a car several times I exceeded the capacity of the pad and didn't know it until it was too late.
It's times like that when I tell myself I am doing the right thing.

Good luck to both of you guys. Most guys have a good experience with the AUS. I never gained continence, went thru PT and had to get ART underway within a year of RP (while driving my wife to chemo). I did a lot of research, spoke with several doctors and Mfr reps, even got to play with the device. My Uro made a lot of promises, but everything possible went wrong. Stuff just happens. I still try to avoid thinking about
it. But odds are good that you will have the typical happy ending. The surgery is more painful than you may have been led to believe, but the recovery goes quickly.

Yes, definitely. At seven months post-op I was still using 8-12 full size pads daily. I didn't just leak, I flowed. I was not even aware of the leaking. I couldn't feel it. It was I had no control. Well, at times when I knew I would leak, like when getting up or down from a chair I could squeeze like a Kegel and it would hold, but one can't clench your butt that long. Eventually you gotta relax those muscles.
But the good thing was, I had been sleeping dry ever since about
a month after RP. I never needed nighttime protection until after getting the AUS and undergoing RT. Now I still sleep with a dry washcloth in my crotch.
By the way, my AUS does not stop leakage completely. Some other guys have reported the same thing. I still wear two pads per day... one in my briefs by day, and another in my loungewear in the evening (and into the next morning). Still that's a heck of a lot better than before the AUS.
As I understand, the AUS is made in standard sizes, sort of like a wrench set... 1/4, 3/8, 1/2 etc. The first AUS was too tight and I couldn't pee at all, so I had a cath for a few weeks, then he went back in and went up to the next larger size... so like shoes, it's better if they're a little too loose rather than a little too tight.

Also when having sex can you still get a orgasm or a nut whatever a man calls it because with the sling when I get hard three sling tightens and the Jack elation takes some time if I can still call it that.

Ubetternoit: When you are reading guys' experiences with their AUS you might want to sneak a peak at their signatures to see what treatments they have had. The first rule of prostate cancer is that there are no guarantees and your experience will probably be different but, statistically, men who have had surgery
plus
radiation don't do as well with AUSes as do men who have only had surgery. Men in the surgery-only category are more likely to be dry with an AUS as compared to men (such as RobLee and myself) who have had radiation after our surgery and are more likely to be improved with an AUS but still leaky.
As for painful climax with an AUS: again, no guarantees but mine doesn't seem to hurt.

I just had mine installed last Friday. It went OK. Surgery was at 7:30am and I was home before noon. I took the catheter out myself the following morning. I am surprised by the amount of bruising that showed up a 2 days later. Level of discomfort is way less than the RALP. After surgery be sure to pull the pump down 3 times per day. Ice packs are your friend.
