Does PC mean other cancer danger in GU system?

During my last annual psa check in a routine urine analysis, they found 3 red blood cells. Thats called microscopic hematauria.

I've had this a few other times over the years so.... my URO doc, every 5 yers or so, works up a closer look. He orders a CT scan and he scopes my penis (super fun), to be sure there is no cancer somewhere up the line etc.

This time my CT came back good except.... the radiologist found a "subtle 2mm parenchymal calcification in the posterior mid lobe of my left kidney" (no stones, or hydrouretor).... I'm guessing this "could maybe" account for a few loose red cells in my UA???? Is it a cancer sign? Is my whole GU system a danger zone?

I will see my uro in two weeks about the report and he will scope the old soldier again.

Has anyone out here ever had anything like this before? Or know much about it ? Thanks for reading this!!!!

I'm not aware of any direct links between PC and other cancers (GU or otherwise). While this is concerning, likely it's nothing much to worry about - except for having to get scoped again. We have had guys here with cancers up that way, but it's somewhat rare to hear of that. Kidney stones happen to many folks.

There are a lot of things that can put blood out that it would be a lot of speculation going on to say if this is bad or nothing to worry about. Likely, it's just one more thing you need to have checked from time to time.

Yeah, likely the kidney is kicking this out. I'm willing to be the URO says, "Let's recheck it next year and drink more water."

I have never heard of a link, but in all cancers when you have had one you are at a higher risk for having another. Many people have multiple occurrences. My wife twice had breast cancer, of different types. My brother in law was treated for bladder cancer three years after his PCa was treated. One probably does not cause the other, but apparently some people are more susceptible. Also, when you have one, you tend to keep a tighter watch on your overall health and go looking for more things as a result.

What JNF said. My dad was diagnosed with PC in the early 90's, was treated, and some years later they found spots on his ureters--the docs claimed they weren't related to the PC. After radiation for that, his PC went into his spine (or was it the PC?).

Point is that the only way to know if a new cancer (which you likely don't have) is related to your PC or not is to take a biopsy and look at it. IMO, cancer is an inevitable part of aging for most of us, and we just need to roll with it.

There might be an increase risk for other forms of cancer. BRAC1 amd BRAC2 gene mutations are know to substantially increase the risk of breast cancer in women. Mutations in BRCA2 have been associated with approximately a 3- to 8.6-fold increase in the risk for prostate cancer in various studies.BRCA1 mutations increase risk by up to almost four-fold. Now the question is, does this mutations increase the chance of male breast cancer an pancreatic cancers?

Update-- I spoke with a URO today who looked over my CT report--- He said its a small stone-- no worries---- yikes--- thanks everyone for your thoughtful and useful comments-- I'll see my other URO for a retest on my psa at the end of the month...... rolling on
