Hi All - So I'm back. Great news as my dad my G9 Mets (Rib, Pelvis(2) and Hip) had a PSA of 60 by the time we started his Casodex then got his Lupron & on Cytiga now for about 3 weeks. His new PSA is now a 4.86 which I'm thankful for which means the meds are doing their job! Next step may be Radiation. We haven't gone a consultation but my dad wanted to hear from you guys with similar diagnosis on what type worked for you & any side effects. Hair loss, pain, invasiveness. He is looking to move with my mom who has MS closer to my sister but wasn't sure what to expect & if he should hold off. Thank you all for your wonderful comments on my original post during my darkest days. I love you all.

I'm not sure about the spot radiation but that's a great response to ADT. Very possible he is heading to undetectable, where he could remain for years. As long as ADT is working, I'm thinking they will hold off on radiation. He won't lose any head hair from ADT, but his body/facial hair may thin.

Hi mattam - Really? Undetectable even with bone mets?? Lupron looks like it's working for you too smile is that considered ADT therapy? You just made my day but I was shocked how low it went so quickly ...Gleason 9 & high grade I have to say I wasn't expecting it to go to a 4.86...hopefully it would go lower.

Lupron plus Zytiga are still standard practice for his situation. It is exactly what I am doing although I had surgery before I started. I can't imagine any radiation being done unless it is to relieve pain at a specific spot. As long as he is responding to treatment there is likely nothing else to do. You might ask your MO about possible future treatments like taxotere. I see no reason why he shouldn't move, assuming he will be near a great treatment center. Where would he be moving?

Hi GoBucks- to West Chester, PA. He currently going to Univ of Penn in Philly so it's close. Where are you? What is Taxotere? Something to take in conjunction with what he already is taking?

Taxotere is a chemo treatment. My MO did not suggest it. Suggests it may be next if/when my PSA rises. As long as your Dad is treated in a good hospital system he'll get good care. My G9 and mets are doing ok with about 2 years undetectable. Many others here have gone much longer. Tell him there is plenty of hope for long lasting remission. I am in Ohio, hence the name GoBucks. There is a big game this weekend-look it up.

Yes, Lupron and Zytiga (as well as other medications) are used for ADT. ADT = Androgen Deprivation Therapy. The medications make Testosterone, which fuels prostate cancer's growth, unavailable to it. Unfortunately the cancer eventually figures a way to get around the treatment, but as said, that can take years. ADT is also referred to as Hormone Therapy.

GoBucks- I’m going to have to look it up as I’m never up on sports. I appreciate the info and I’m praying for all of you that remission is long. I hope you enjoy the game and I wish you a great day tomorrow! This whole thing has me in a tailspin but this place has certainly helped me as I’m sure it’s helped you. I’ll be looking to see if your team won!

The ADT treatment he is receiving can also be called chemical castration and it's side effects are what you would expect from that...The first to appear are usually hot flashes and fatigue along with weight gain if he is not careful . Sexual desire and interest along with ability quickly fade away.. The reason it's used so frequently is because it's so effective..But it is not a cure. How old is your dad ? I know these are things you don't want to hear but your going to learn about them soon enough..

Hi Fairwind - my dad just turned 70. I know this isn’t pretty I have had a pretty tough time coping and devastation quickly engulfed me as he is my favorite person in this world. How old were you when diagnosed?
