Pain, swelling, and lumpy/bumpy tissue formation from Lupron Depot shot

I just had my third 3-month dosage (22.5) of Lupron Depot, administered in my butt (dorsogluteal). Just like the second shot I have pain, swelling, muscle contraction/spasm, and a significant loss in range of motion. The second shot injury took 3 months to resolve, and it's left some hard, bumpy tissue below the skin.

I had no reaction to the first shot, and the second shot injury we believed was due to a poorly-placed injection. But now, with two reactions in a row, the docs are thinking it's a reaction to the drug itself, or the polymer beads that soak it up, and are injected into the muscle.

Help! Has anyone experienced this, discovered the reason, and found a solution?

Are you saying someone from Lupron, manufacturer, etc, will likely chime in?

I had three Lupron shots with absolutely no problems. in fact I've had flu shots that have caused me more pain. I think a lot has to do with how the shot is administered.

the gal the gave me my lupron shots would roll the syringe in her hands to warm up the Lupron and then she injected the stuff slowly.

I have had three yrs of 3 months shots with just a sore spot for a couple of days. She does flick the needle with one finger for a few minutes to make sure it is all mixed up. It is given in one butt cheek then the opposite the next time.

Thank you all for your input. Since this isn't your typical "few days soreness" after an intramuscular shot, I thought it would be wise to provide more details.

During my second shot, on the right side, my body flinched, involuntarily, a second or two into the shot. Since it was followed by swelling, pain, and a band - about 2" by 4" - of inflamed tissue with a discernible "head," we assumed it was an anomaly, and she must have "hit" something. Some bruising appeared (hematoma, perhaps?), the tissue got lumpy/bumpy and hard, and a CT was performed. Many Dr appts, was about to have it aspirated by an interventional radiologist, and now after more than three (3) months, most of the paid and swelling are gone, but some of the lump hard and bumpy tissue remains. I'll have to ask the Doc if my system might eliminate that over time. Hmmm?

Since we thought is was a rare, one-off issue, I rec'd the VIP treatment at the facility along with the most experienced nurse in this modality. The shot went flawlessly (no flinch) in the left buttock, and I went on my way. Over the next 11 days, well, here we are again; swelling, pain, inflamed band of tissue, etc. As someone mentioned in this thread, it certainly appears to be a reaction to the drug, the polymer beads it's soaked in, or both.

What's odd: I had NO reaction at all to my first shot administered elsewhere.

Could it be a different drug manufacturer or suspension/polymer beads??

Speaking of this gal's warming hands and generosity, did she also roll.... oh never mind.

wasnt much to roll in those days, and my hairless nuts were the size of jelly beans

I had about six of those Lupron treats administered to my thigh muscle
Side effects disappeared in a day or two and were manageable to begin with.
The administration protocol is somewhat tedious. Therefore, it's important that the nurse knows how to properly give the shot.

I got my first Eligard shot in the arm. Hurt like a mother when injected and had a golf ball size lump for a day as it gradually subsided but took a couple of weeks to completely heal. 2nd shot due on 2/10/20. Next time I’ll suggest the other arm and greatful to still be here to get them.
