Speaking of the CDC, here is their page of ongoing updates on the coronavirus situation:
https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.htmlThere seems to be a good bit of information there, and presumably it is the kind of reliable information (the original point of this thread) that we need to have right now.
A few other items I picked up from this morning's webreading about
this thing. (NOTE: items that may or may not be as reliable as the CDC reports noted above presumably are).
First, I read that a good number of drugs, or components going into those drugs, used in the U.S. are actually manufactured in China. A disruption of the supply chain from there might impact the availability of some or all of those drugs here.
Also, if the coronavirus does cause a medical crisis of massive proportions here, then the U.S. health system will likely have no choice but to shift attention away from many existing services to deal worth it, causing treatment delays of unknown length and severity for other medical diseases and conditions.
(I probably shouldn't even be talking about
what's in the above two paragraphs, as they indeed smack as much of rumor as fact, and, again, that wasn't what this thread was supposed to be about
. Oh well ...)
But on the positive side (I guess it's positive, at least at this point), I also learned that FEMA is currently NOT planning to declare medical martial law (yes, there is such a thing), although their page on the subject is already a few weeks old:
