Trans parenial prostrate biopsy

Welcome Aristides! You should be pleased to know that transperineal biopsy studies report a near zero rate of infection! And this approach lets cores be taken in the anterior region, which is hard to reach with a TRUS. I think it will become much more popular as the equipment needed is more widely adopted.

I haven't had a TP, but I have had many TRUS biopsies (none resulting in infection, BTW). I will tell you that, in my experience at least, there is no reason for worry and certainly none to be scared. (Would I rather have been in Philadelphia? Yes*.) I suggest chatting with your doc during the procedure to take your mind off of it

I had TRUS and no problems.... The thought of what is about to happen was a million times worse then the actual procedure.

I had the biopsy last summer....took only about 5 minutes.....no pain at all for me during the test, just heard the clicking of the machine. The only part that bothered me somewhat was the surprise of shoving some type of probe up my butt at the beginning which I guess is hollow for the sample thing to go inside. I wish the doc would have told me he was going to put it in there....felt like he was shoving a broom stick up my butt. Tell your doc to take it easy....lol. I didn't have any problems resulting from the test...they have you take an antibiotic before and after...no blood in my stool or urine....everything was fine except for my butt hurting from that darn probe thing. Then of course for the 2 week wait. Good luck!
