After 8.5 years treatment . . .

My PSA remains at 0.01! I am happy. I had external beam proton radiation treatment 8.5 years ago at Indiana University at Bloomington. My PSA fell quickly and has plateaued at 0.01. For me, proton radiation has been a great success so far. I've had no chronic side effects and my everyday life is excellent. If anyone considering proton treatment has any questions, feel free to ask.

Great report Skeeter. Glad to see the cancer control success and lack of negative treatment based side effects. Again shows how great radiotherapy can do compared to invasive treatments.

I was a student at IU when the machine was first built in a very secretive way for research. Too bad that after ten years of using it for medical treatments that they had to close it in 2014 due to the very high expense and limited number people using it. In the ten years 2,079 people were treated. Glad you were among them. It is the only proton beam center in the US to have closed. I understand it is still being used for research.

Just read a great article about the Proton center that Skeeter used at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, my alma mater. Paraphrasing the article, In March of 2014, Dennis day, a 65 year old man, a Santa Claus look-a-like with white hair and beard and of significant girth, became the 2,079th and last patient to ring the treatment completion bell. Day was treated for PCa. The prior day’s bell ringer was a 48 year old male high school guidance counselor completing seven weeks of daily treatment for a brain tumor planning to return to work the following Monday.
