Finally found cancer beginning treatment soon

After several years of psa rising and many scans PSMA found lymph node involvement very small but there. Several doctors have advised luproun and zytiga with prednisone for two years. I am not wanting to take prednisone because of side effects and am thinking of xtandi instead any thoughts out there.

Zytiga and Xtandi - either one will probably do the job just as well as the other. Zytiga works by further reducing the T that Lupron doesn't get out of your system. Xtandi works by blocking lingering T from binding to it's receptor. I find Xtandi attractive (as much as any form of ADT could be viewed as attractive) because in my mind it complements Lupron. Like you, I also wasn't thrilled about taking Prednisone. A minor consideration is the lack of meal restrictions for Xtandi, making it more convenient to take.

I have been on ZYTIGA for almost 5 years, and it has helped me immensely.

I'm thankful that both XTANDI and ZYTIGA have emerged as helpful treatment options --- both being daily medications that fellows can take at home.

There's ease and convenience in that -- as opposed to chemotherapy or radiation, which involves scheduled treatments at the hospital or clinic.

Rely upon your doctor's guidance, but remember that you are the quarterback of your medical TEAM.

Your doctor may have also suggested Zytiga, now that a generic is available, which can translate to cost savings. Whatever medication you choose, check out costs, after insurance, etc. Your doctor's staff can guide you.

The reason you take prednisone with Zytiga is because Zytiga lowers blood levels of cortisol in many patients. So the prednisone is considered cortisol “replacement”, which can help reduce side effects from Zytiga treatment. It doesn't cause any real side effects.
