California is loaning 500 ventilators to New York since California's peak is projected to hit later.

I understand the distance aspect, but Germany, for example, has a special flying "ambulance" for moving patients long distances.

Alf, yes, such things (air ambulances) do exist in the US--but in our fee-for-service world, average people could not possibly afford to be life-flighted from NYC to Denver (to stick with the example). Those services are frequently specifically not covered by insurance.
