OT: Song Suggestions?!! Let's ROCK !

Just got done watching the new movie, Once Were Brothers: Robbie Robertson and The Band. They cut that edge somewhere between folk, blues, and old southern rock. Made for a nice afternoon.

Can't do better than the Eagles, and "One of These Nights" was (no "is," great music never dies) certainly one of their best.

I'm going to cast a vote for Crosby, Stills and Nash (before Neil Young came along). They too produced some great stuff. Here's an example. (I remember posting here about this particular song in a thread a while back, but don't recall the context now. Anyway, it's worth hearing again, and, in particular, pay attention to Stephen Stills on guitar, for a truly stunning performance).

Gear - there was bad blood with some of the Band and Robbie Robertson, did the movie make any attempt to get into that or was it about Robbie? I want to rent it but if it is all accolades, I might pass.

Full House by J. Geils Band - This was the crazy party album that was played at most college keg parties when I was in school, enough beer and you could dance to anything. “Take out your false teeth mama, I want to suck on your gums”

Well, I still remember that the first album I bought with my own money was "American Pie", probably in 1972 or 73. When I was a college student it was the high point of the Disco movement (it sucked the first time around). But, those years were also the years of Boston, Supertramp, Aerosmith, Yes, and others.

Thanks Gear, as I recall Robbie somehow got all the rights to their music and did not share the money with the others. Levon Helm was not happy about it. I watch The Last Waltz once a year so will give this one a chance.

I’m with ISU, Eagles. I’m a huge fan to this day, I rarely miss a tour although this year I did as I was in Flor9da when they were in NY. Last tour, I attended both nights at Madison Square Garden.
Favorite song of all time is Take It Easy. No particular story, other than it reminds,e if the days I was running around getting as many “Chicks” as I could.

I started taking Guitar Lessons about 5 weeks before the Corona thing hit, and now I’m on my own, taught myself the chords to play the song, just yesterday.

I actually had planned to book a trip in October to Winslow Arizona, I always wanted to stand on that corner. But now with the virus, I just don’t know.

I have stood on "that" corner a few times over the years, sometimes alone, sometimes with friend and/or family. And of course had to "sing" that line. Usually when traveling from my south eastern home to AZ, but also when I lived just 57 miles from Winslow in Flagstaff. I had been living in Phoenix (stationed at Luke AFB) when that song came out. Great song, great band. I was breaking up with a girlfriend back in Columbus, GA about 75 when "Lying Eyes" came out, and I recall it would get to me every time it came on the radio. Which was often since the radio was on all day where I worked.

Wow, this thread bring back the memories doesn't it? I used to love just listening to Top 40 radio when I was kid. So much great music.

Getting to Winslow, as silly as it seems, is a bucket list item for me. Now I wonder when I’ll be able to do it.

All good suggestions. I would go for anything by Steely Dan. If I had to pick one I'd have a really hard time narrowing it down, maybe "Dirty Work" or "Kid Charlemagne." Larry Carlton's guitar solo in the latter is hard to beat.

Interestingly enough, I had the idea of going through my collection of tunes and selecting out the best individual songs. The criteria I used was that if the song came up on a streaming service, I would never hit "Skip," or for the older of us, I wouldn't punch the station change button on the car radio. I have over 800 albums in vinyl, over 2,000 albums as mp3, a couple hundred reels of tape, about 300 8-tracks, and LOTS of 45s. Oh, yes, and some cassettes, so I had plenty to choose from.

I called this my "No Skip Singles" and, as of now, have 434 songs in it. I put them on my phone and play on shuffle. The segues between genres work better than one might think.
