Radiation side effects 10 years after salvage therapy

Haven't posted here in many years but visit periodically. I had salvage radiation with 1 year of ADT in 2010. Radiation completed in Sept 2010. Treatment was successful and my PSA has been undetectable ever since. Just recently I have had blood in my urine and rectal bleeding. Saw my GP today and he is having me get a colonoscopy and see a urologist. He said that it may be pressure changes from radiation. Scar tissue from radiation that breaks with pressure from bowel movements. Has anyone had experience with this? Is it common so long after treatment. Thanks

Interesting topic. I had ART five years ago. The past year I have noticed improvment in my bowel movements - closer to how they were prior to treatment, but I wonder
what might be down the road.

Thanks, really lucky to be cancer free. I seem to have dodged the bullet on the PCa. I contrast the bladder issue may be a minor inconvenience.

I also continue to improve 7 years after radiation treatment ended. Rectal bleeding never really stopped though.

I had seeds and IGRT in 2010 and I have had no problems except for a couple bouts of radiation cystitis. but radiation was my primary treatment

I haven't had issues like this and I do recall my doctor telling me radiation SEs were after five years, but could still happen. I'm glad you have a proactive doc and are getting it checked out.

Continue to bleed all day today. This didn't happen before. Will try to get into see urologist tomorrow.

BB sorry you are going through this. Hope its nothing more than scar tissue breaking up. Please keep us posted.
My RO told me that i might see some blood in my urine in 2 years or more after treatment ended, and that if it happened, it would probably be nothing more than SE's from SRT, but to let him know, as it should be checked. So i'm glad that you are being proactive about being sure that it is nothing sinister, which seems unlikely.

Thankfully bleeding stopped. It was going strong all day and really worrying me. Perhaps it was the pulled pork sandwich and glass of wine I had for dinner did the trick. Still going to get to urologist ASAP.

HDR brachytherapy and IMRT in 2010. Absolutely no bowel or urinary problems at any time. Have had three colonoscopies since and each time the doc said there was no radiation damage. Thankfully.

Of course, you have to stay on top of any symptoms as they arise. What is very clear is that with the advent of IMRT/IGRT/SBRT methods of delivering external beam radiation collateral radiation damage is greatly diminished. This is not just with PCa, but other cancers as well.
