From CDC: COVID vaccine priority recommendations: who gets it first

The article below, from a few days ago, lists the priority categories per the CDC as to which groups of people will be vaccinated first.

The priorities, in order:

Phase 1a (24 million people)

healthcare personnel with direct exposure to infected persons
residents of long-term care facilities

Phase 1b (49 million people)

people 75 and older

Phase 1c (140 million doses to be distributed)

adults 65 to 74
persons 16-64 with high-risk conditions, such as diabetes or heart disease
essential workers

Phase 2

persons 16-64 not qualified under Phase 1

Also from article:

"The report and recommendations provided no timelines for when the vaccine doses would be made available, nor the number of doses that would be available during Phase 2 ... Officials have said that most people in the United States should have access to the vaccine by the end of 2021."

I would think it's likely the above categories will be at least fine-tuned or modified as time goes by, depending on multiple factors, but at least we are now getting a picture of what the eventual priority plan is looking like.

For better or worse, I'm a Phase 2 guy. I had been hoping to get vaccinated by April, but I'm thinking May or even June is more likely.

The vaccine rollout is and will continue to be a logistical nightmare. Already healthcare workers are jockeying for the front of the line and cutting in line to get the vaccine. At the Kaiser Permanente system where our daughter, a physician, works, they got 1000 doses for 6000 employees. Employees who do not have direct contact with Covid patients were able to get vaccinated first. She will have to wait until more doses come in later. My mother, age 95 and living in a long-term care facility, will get the vaccine within the next two weeks. I'm 72, so will get the vaccine in the later phases. The overall problem will be to get enough people willing to get vaccinated--enough for herd immunity at 80 to 90%.

In Florida we don't need no stinkin' CDC guidelines. In the Sunshine State, everyone 65 and older is next in line after front line health care workers and long term care patients. Our governor knows his voting bloc....

So, believe it or not, if the vaccine is available I may be able to get it next week. I'll let you know. BTW, the first HW prostate cancer survivor to receive the vaccine is eligible for the grand prize...

...which is a one-week vacation to Philadelphia. Second PCa survivor to receive the vaccine gets a two-week vacation in Philadelphia.

I was pretty surprised to see this, he signed the executive order in the last few days. I think it’s wrong, but I’m not turning down the vaccine. Teachers, cops, EMT, and other FIRST RESPONDERS SHOULD GO BEFORE HEALTHY SENIORS AGE 65 and over. But leave it to the Florida Governor. F8 is right.

Jim, you don’t really think it will be available to us next week, do you? I’m hoping it will be before end February, I’d like to get vaccinated before heading north for the summer. I’ve read multiple news articles that have stated Florida doesn’t require you to be a full time Florida resident to get vaccinated.

Prato, "DeSantis has said he hopes that by February, most of Florida’s initial priority group — including older adults" (that means over age 65) will be vaccinated. He plans to start the vaccinations of those 65 and older before the end of 2020." I'm watching and waiting for any applicable info as to where to sign up; my local hospital system is waiting for more vaccine and more answers from the Gov. Also, he says that old snowbirds are also eligible for the shots so you are good to go.

Thanks Jim, that’s hopeful, I’ll keep my eyes open. End February,or even mid March gives me enough time to get second shot, and still head north by mid April

Jockeying for position to get vaccinated will test our true integrity, As Paine wrote:

How you rationalize if you could get away with anything, and nobody would know, is I believe, the true measure of a person.? I think we'll all be tested with vaccine priorities, and what we're willing to do to move up the pecking order. “Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are.”

I saw a report last night that there is already a black market for the vaccine in NYC. Shocking ;-)

Anything of value has a black market. I wonder what the going rate is for a Covid-19 vaccine? Buyer beware, it may be bleach. 🙂

Interesting thought. (at least to me) The place that got busted has voluntarily returned its supply of vaccine. What if you got your first shot through them? Do you say "hey I need my 2nd shot now"? Glad they get what they paid for.
