Went to Siteman Cancer Center/Wash U for the 2nd opinion I was seeking. I met with a medical oncologist who specializes in Prostate, kidney and bladder cancers. Really liked the guy. He was 67 years old and said he has had zero PSA tests done on himself so far and doesn’t plan on doing one any time soon. My wife & I both met with him for almost an hour. He was very informative. He said they looked at all my slides etc and they rated me a Gleason 8 instead of a 7. He said he would have done exactly the same thing that my dr’s here did. He said that the fact that my PSA is going down is good and since I am only 3 mo post radiation I need to be more patient. He said if it would make me feel better to get another PSA in 3 months as my next PSA isn’t scheduled for another 6 months currently. He agreed that 6 mo is soon enough. Said the radiation needs more time to work and since we only radiated the prostate bed, it hasn’t spread because it is trending down. Said I may never get to undetectable but as long as it doesn’t go up I shouldn’t worry. Said my prognosis is good and he would be happy to see me again but that he didn’t think I needed to. Said give it more time and quit stressing about it. I asked why I wasn’t put on some sort of drug before radiation and he said he doesn’t normally do that either as that tends to mask more than anything.

I know this goes against what several people on here were saying and I wish I could type my whole conversation with him as we did have about an hour consultation with him. I feel a lot better going forward than I did before I met with him.

I live on Lake Springfield just south of Springfield. Memorial is where all of my dr’s are.
