I am 21 years post RP and all is well.....except.....last year or so a marked level of fatique particularly my legs. My primary doc sent me for a free testosterone blood test. Results: 4.1...My primary doc says it's borderline low and is sending me to my Uro doc.

Has anyone had this experience? I have noticed some comments in the literature about low T increasing the chances of a biological reoccurrence of my Ca.??????

11 years since surgery.
Your T is VERY low and consideration (!) should be given to supplementation to make you feel better. Lifestyle changes might help as well:

I would not worry about low T increasing the chance of a recurrence. In fact, basic medicine suggests the opposite.

I wish the Tall man was still here for this -- I remember (but cannot cite the source) that many PCa patients develop low/very low T after treatment. One of my colleagues at work had surgery about 6-7 years ago, and he needed to use a T gel from a compounding pharmacy for supplementation.

I'm not sure what his T level was, so he may have wanted to use the compounding pharmacy to mitigate the cost of topical supplements. I've been on TRT for years -- before diagnosis, during treatment and still now.

I would be grossly symptomatic without TRT.

If you are having trouble convincing your doc to treat your Low T, look up the research of Dr. Abraham Morgentaler (in Boston, affiliated with Harvard). He has spent the last 20-25 years researching the intersect of T (and T supplementation) with PCa. He was very helpful for me.

Huge thanks-- I will track down the Dr. you mention. I see conflicting studies about the safety of T therapy and it's relationship to cardiovascular disease and Pca. My issue is that in the last few years my legs have just become weak despite my workout regimine and it effects my safe mobility---I just got a t blood test and I am off scale low below he ref range.....so.....I made an appointment to see my Uro about the issue.

As far as I can remember (not very far these days), there are different T tests (Free and Total) and you should really be more specific when reporting about these tests and include the units.
It is also true that, unlike PSA, T can vary a lot during the day.

My results were expressed in pg/ml. Free T.

so..... I am off scale low at 4.1 pg/ml.

My test, which was a screening by my prim care doc, was drawn at 2:30 pm. I'm now going to my uro in a week or so. Undoubtedly he will test again, this time both free and total and will order the blood draw for 0800. I agree, it's pretty well known it is often higher in the am.....
