https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vnxadowt1v0Hopefully the above link will take you to a Youtube link of “Song of Hope” recorded at “Cancer Blows”, 2015, played by Ryan Anthony (now deceased, former principal trumpet Dallas Symphony and member of Canadian Brass Quintet), David Bilger (Philadelphia Orchestra), and Michael Sachs (Cleveland Symphony), and directed by Phil Smith (former principal trumpet of New York Philharmonic). Member of the Dallas Symphony brass section are playing in the background (phenomenal French horns). The piece was written for and in honor of Ryan Anthony. Ryan passed away in June, 2020. He and his family began a fundraiser, “Cancer Blows”, in order to raise money for research/treatment of multiple myeloma, the disease that ultimately took his life after a battle of about
7 years. He was not only a terrific musician, but apparently a terrific husband, father, and friend to so many. There were two “Cancer Blows” fundraiser concerts (2015, 2017) that included performances by a vast array of world class brass players. This piece, however, is my favorite. Some of the finest trumpet playing I have ever heard. Just wanted to share it with you all. Enjoy! (Turn up the volume or even better - use headphones/earbuds).
