His family said he died at 78 from natural causes.
Yeah, I know, the Monkees... but you have to admit they were successful. I think they had some good songs and the TV show provided endless laughs for me as a kid.
”The group collaborated early with some of the major songwriters and session musicians of the day, including Neil Diamond, Carole King, Glen Campbell and Hal Blaine." I didn't know that but I'm not surprised.

They were more than successful...their songs were great...not just good...and they were not self-consuming drama queens...they were wholesome and fun unlike folks in most paradigms of "fame"

Interesting tidbit! His mom invented Liquid Paper.
"He was born Robert Michael Nesmith in Houston on Dec. 30, 1942. After his parents’ divorce when he was four, he moved with his mother to Dallas. Her secretarial work ultimately led to her development of a new product, the typewriter correction fluid Liquid Paper. (Following Bette Nesmith Graham’s death in 1980, Nesmith inherited half of her estate, estimated at more than $50 million.)"

Michael Nesmith was the talented one and did a lot more than reunion concerts after the Monkees ended. The Monkees were TV's answer to the Beatles movies like A Hard Days Night and Help!
Never cared for overly produced music but am sad when any decent musician passes. RIP

“If ya can’t explain it to a 6 year old, you don’t understand it yourself”
In 1967, the Monkees outsold both the Beatles and The Rolling Stones - combined.
