I had my RP Surgery this week

Hello everyone,
My surgery was performed this Monday, January 17. I'm told it went as planned. I'm just experiencing the normal pain and discomfort. Yesterday, my catheter clogged, and was irrigated. Today, 5 days post surgery, my pain level was at it's highest. It wasn't untolerable, and was brought back down in the afternoon. I'm still a G7, with negative margins and negative lymph nodes. The catheter gets removed next Monday.

Sounds like things went well enough. You will look forward to getting the catheter out. It's almost always a non-event, but also a great event.

Congrats on leaving surgery behind and best of luck on a great recovery going forward! Follow all your discharge instructions (no lifting!) Avoid constipation (take a stool softener if needed) and remember that a reasonable amount of walking is great for recovery.

Ditto to making to the other side.... When the cath comes out - don't wear boxers. You'll need briefs to hold the pads up close.

Great news about the negative margins and lymph nodes. Before too long the pain and the catheter will be in your rear view mirror. I hope you feel better soon.

Thank you all for your warm sentiments. I have to say it's nice to receive them. Thank you too, for all the invaluable advice.
It's confirmed that both my nerve bundles were wrapped in an umbilical cord allograft. The umbilical cord is a rich source of regenerative cells and proteins. There's no downside other than expense, and the upside is wonderful.

That's a new one for me. I wonder if that's been going on for awhile?

I continue to learn from the forum. There have been times when I've considered whether I would be better off by walking away from everything cancer. I guess I can't help myself. Hearing about new treatments and treatment strategies from our members helps to keep me going.

I hope the grafts do it well, Friend!

Welcome to the other side. Drink plenty of water, walk as much as you can. Nap when you need to. Eat healthy. Getting the catheter out is a major step. Let us know how it goes.

Congratulations on making it to the other side of surgery. Things really get better after the catheter is removed…at least in my experience.

My catheter was removed yesterday without incident. I was anticipating a lot of leakage, but I'm actually happy so far. When I initiate a kegel, it feels to me that there's penis movement.
I was given the tissue exam report. I'm still a G7, but I've moved up to a 4+3 affecting 18% of the entire gland. I also do have a positive margin, described as limited to less than 3mm. It's a G4 at the margin. Extra tissue sampled from the area was negative, as well as lymph nodes. They are considering me as having negative margins.
So, the surgery was a good call for me. I'm glad I chose it.

That's a decent report. With the switch to 4+3 that means long term vigilance for recurrence. You have years of regular PSA readings to look forward to.

Keep up the walking and kegals. Good things may start happening soon.
