Hi have not been on a road bike since my early 20s. Back then I should have never been on a motorcycle. I was too crazy inexperienced and if I’m being honest stupid to ride a bike. Yesterday I took my first ride on the 1996 Harley Davidson sportster that I recently purchased. Oh my God it was amazing. I almost felt like that kid back in my 20s again but without the stupidity. We took a ride partway through the Columbia gorge and I had a total blast. I think it’s going to be a summer of exploration.

Sounds like excitement above my pay grade. 😉 No doubt you are wise enough to be wearing helmets
Have fun!

I’m not so sure it’ll fit in my carry-on jack

I'm on another board where a lady got a pacemaker a few years ago. Her doctor told her she needed to take it easy. She went out and bought a motorcycle and has been having a ball ever since.

Todd -
I'm afraid this is the closest I've ever come to riding a motorcycle:

It's got to be ABSOLUTELY NOTHING compared to the real thing!

We actually rode the Washington side of the Gorge. It’s actually prettier but Highway 14 is winding and 1 lane in each direction

I was a pretty active motorcyclist in my younger years but stopped in the 80s when life got busy with marriage, house, kids, career change, and a geographic change.
A bit over a year ago I am writing my memoirs and realized that some of the best times I had in life were when I was riding a motorcycle. So, I started getting myself reeducated on the motorcycle world, which had changed quite a bit. After very detailed research, a year ago yesterday I bought a 2021 Yamaha FJR1300ES.
So, even though we can’t ride here for most of our winter, in this past year I put 13,619 miles on it which included a great 6,658-mile ride from here in Montana to Madawaska, Maine and back via the UP in Michigan. That ride was all on 2-lane roads, no freeways, camping out all the way. I’ll be doing a big loop of of the Pacific Northwest this summer.
And, yes, I wear a helmet and armored jacket, gloves, and pants. ATGATT (All The Gear All The Time.)

Tood, this sounds very cool. Glad you're helmeted up and I wish you safe cycling.
Unfortunately, I had an uncle killed in a MC accident and a friend died in one just a couple of years ago. This has dampened my potential enthusiasm but I do admit to some MC envy when I hear great stories.
Here in what our governor calls Free-Florida there are not many laws that encumber MC riders. Lots of folks riding w/o helmets in shorts and flip-flops!

Sold my Harley last year, finally decided I would rather die in my truck than scattered about
the road. Also sold my old Miata last week for similar reason. Too many toys at 70 but dam, they were fun…

When my art business really took off in the 1970's I found I rode my (self-built) 1946 ULA flathead '80 HD chopper (I worked in a custom bike build shop) with racing motor, 24k gold plate - all the bells/whistles and a big brass Pakistani taxi horn - less and less each year. Finally broke down and sold it to a collector who had a private classic bike museum. Indian Chief, Henderson 4 in line, AJS etc. The ULA fit in right nice after I turned it back to near stock. He kept coming over every day and stacking $100 dollar bills on the seat. The pile got big enough to take and he rode off into the sunset.
I got a Honda 350 scrambler, rode that for many years until the area roads got too congested for me. Sold it to a guy from Up North. Went to an ATB (bicycle). When I got my first Lab I got off the bike and started back running. Like Mumbo, I may die in my Honda Odyssey, not scattered all over the highway.
As for toys....I still got plenty.

Thank you for all of the replies. It’s been a busy few days and it’s been crazy as far as the weather goes around here. Last Thursday only one week ago it was 78° here. That was the day I test rode the bike. I brought it home Sunday evening and woke up Monday morning 5 inches of snow. It has snowed almost every night rained almost every day we’ve had sleet we’ve had thunder and lightning and I have been sitting in the house while the bike gently weeps in the garage

You may want to listen to the White Album today while waiting for the weather to clear if not already doing that....

Wow that’s funny Matt Tim we both posted the same video at the same time. This is one of my all-time favorite videos. Prince just tears it up at the end
