Always had low PSA. Now its 6.7 New to this.

Im 54. My health has always been good. very active riding mountain bikes and my harley.

Last March (2021) i had a very strange sharp pain in my back. I thought it was from doing too many situps ( i was doing a crazy amount back then). Then the pain spread to my liver area, so I thought maybe it was a hernia. After 6 weeks of this off and on pain, I had enough

Went to the Dr. and had an ultrasound of ALL my abdomen area and my testicles. Nothing. AND my prostate was a good size (abdominal, lower pelvic scan showed this). I was told to take some anti biotics but the pain never fully went away.

Had a PSA a week ago and it came back 6.7. My PSA has NEVER been higher that 2.5. AND my pelvic area aches like a mild headache. When I saw the bloodwork (my doc is on vacation but the results automatically upload to my patient portal), I said "oh my god I have cancer," as a number that high seems to indicate so.

Anyone have any thoughts on this? No blood in my urine, though I do pee at night more than I like, maybe 3 times.

What should my next steps be? I dont talk to the doc until monday, the 9th.

You should relax. A rapid PSA rise is a sign of something, but probably not prostate cancer, which causes a gradual rise in PSA. Keep in mind that a PSA test is NOT a test for cancer. The pain you are experiencing is almost certainly not from prostate cancer. Pain comes only in much later phases of the disease. Peeing a lot may be a sign of prostatitis, which also causes an increase in PSA.

Not sure if your dr is a urologist, or a urologic oncologist, but if he/she isnt I would start looking around for one.

There will be tests/scans and hopefully a biopsy.

Thanks. Ive been having a slight fever off and on for about a month, and yes, peeing a lot. All my other bloodwork came back fine so yes, I think its prostatitis. I woke up this morning feeling confident its some kind of infection. Will have a talk with the doctor in a few days if not tomorrow.

Dell, you most likely have some sort of infection. A quick rise in PSA is rarely a sign of cancer and, as others noted, those symptoms you mention are certainly not typical of a 6.7 PSA. As Stephen said, please see a urologist.

Thanks.

I just had a visit with my GP. He too thinks its an infection but will refer me to a urologist. He put me on antibiotics for 2 weeks.

By the time I got here I should’ve already been dead about 4 times. Funny how all that goes away once truth is revealed.

There is some sort of medical issue where scrotum hurts for no particular reason. I hear it’s a much more common problem than is talked about. Women have it as well. You probably know about it.

I’ve had that. (But don’t go reading too much into that). It’s unrelated to cancer.

well the only thing is, a friend had Prostate Cancer and when I told him my PSA was 6.7 he said its likely cancer. THEN I started googling.

its looking more like mine is prostatitis. My doc isnt even worried. im feeling quite calm now

Thanks. Currently taking antibiotics and TONS of Tumeric for inflammation. Tumeric really helps

Dell, when you meet with the urologist make sure you tell him you are taking "tons of tumeric". Tumeric may actually be artificially lowering your PSA levels and your "real PSA" could be higher if you were not taking it.

Thanks for this. A week before my appt Im going to stop taking it, on the advice of my doctor. But, Im guessing I will have a full battery of tests which will reveal what is going on with the prostate.
