SAN DIEGO (AP) — San Diego Padres manager -Padre Manger Bob Melvin says he'll have prostate surgery Wednesday and hopes he misses only part of a forthcoming road trip.

Melvin said he doesn't think he has cancer, "but they won't know until they get in there.”

His statement does not make sense to me. Did he NOT have a biopsy?? Maybe he is speaking of having a biopsy. I did not think that is a surgery. If he is talking about having a RP then why don't "they know".

Instead of TMI, ...MIN (more information need)

My guess...sounds like he's having a BPH procedure like TURP or HoLEP, or something similar that gives tissue for a pathology review.

This sounds more like BPH and a TURP, given the statement that he will recover so quickly. Also,
since he doesn’t know if he has cancer would indicate no biopsy yet.

I just watched his statement to the press. The road trip ends on May 23rd. Also, interesting the press said he had been experiencing symptoms which included gastro problems. Gastro problems? Maybe he is worried what they will find.

A TURP is no walk in the park, and recovery will take time, if that's what he is having done.

This had to be a Turp operation for BPH. There is no way a URO would remove a prostate if cancer wasn’t detected first. I still don’t understand the report of him having gastro problems in association with the need for a prostate Turp.

Jack, probably unrelated, except for the reality that baseball team personnel likely have trouble managing their diets, sleep, etc--all of which can have unpleasant gastric effects.
