Recurrence?

Had an increase in psa so I started reading this forum looking for answers. I have noticed a couple messages with high psa saying it could be a lot things like dehydration, enlarged prostate or infection. I did not no it could go that high for those reasons. 


I was dx 2017 @53yrs

Psa 67

4+5 met to pelvic side wall

Hormones 2yrs

45 session's whole pelvic radiation 

Zytiga and Prednisone 18 months 


I responded well to all treatments (except the side effects) and psa fell to undetectable for a couple years. Unfortunately I thought if it was going to be later down the road if I the cancer came back. I  quit doing my psa tests  for several month's. I had a psa test 5/26/23 and it was 7.630 exactly a week later 6/2/23 it is 7.450 could this just be a rise from non cancerous reasons. If it is a chance that it is non cancerous I would like to be treated locally. Otherwise I would need to travel to Seattle for treatment.

I agree with Mumbo, definitely do not delay on setting up the appt. in Seattle. If they can find the source of the PSA, they can spot radiate. There are also many options to bring that PSA back down. If it is an infection, you'll get the antibiotics you need. Either way, check it out and let us know how you make out. Will pray for resolving this rising PSA.

Do you have a local doctor who has been looking after you lately?

It's important to stay consistent with follow-up PSA tests, along the way. My local doctor has made sure of this, in my case, since my diagnosis in 2013.

Until VERY recently, I visited the lab every month, like clockwork. In recent months, I have gone to an "every two months" schedule.

You should have a doctor's guidance on all of this. I hope you have had a doctor who has been tracking things for you, and meeting consistently with you.

You have everything to gain by seeking out the best level of medical care you can. Your local doctor should be an advocate in helping you coordinate that.

Sometimes, we have to be our own advocate and start booking appointments, scans, and consultations.

In my case, my local oncologist and Dr. Kwon at Mayo Clinic co-manage my case. That two levels of trusted expertise, looking after my case.

Swedish Cancer Institute and Fred Hutchinson/University of Washington Cancer Consortium are two of the better known cancer places in Seattle from what I have read.

Getting evaluated now is more important than another PSA test. PSA will become part of their evaluation as well as scans, etc. to know what is going on with you.

That's tremendous that you already have medical treatment history in Seattle.

They will have your medical records on file. Any pertinent records from your local doctor can be shared electronically by your local clinic.

You have the ball rolling. That's a HUGE step forward.

If they call, have your calendar at the ready ~ and be ready to book in with them at your soonest convenience. When I book with Mayo Clinic, I make that appointment a priority. Golf games, haircut appointments, and routine dental cleanings can wait, I always say ...

Meanwhile ~ do you have a trusted local oncologist? Might you consult & consider asking for an ADT injection now to see if it starts lowering PSA?

My oncologist started ADT the very day I was diagnosed, each case being different, I realize.

Scans, of course, are likely going to be paramount in framing what treatments might be needed. That's where Seattle will be helpful ...

No, I left several messages with them and did the online request form a couple times. Have not heard back from them. I will need to call Monday and try to get a live person instead of leaving a message .

I think you have plenty of time to see what the doctors say without concerning yourself with ADT at this moment.
