Urethral Stricture

My stricture was opened with metal rods (“sounds”). No catheter was needed. It wasn’t caused by radiation. It was the result of the sutures coming loose that were used to sew the urethra back to the bladder. This resulted in a larger “wound” (causing more scarring) to the urethra than is normally seen.

Strictures due to radiation is out of my wheelhouse Brook. I’ve noticed some cases such as yours here. Maybe someone who’s had your particular issue will come along.

Good luck with it Brook. This isn’t the kind of fun anyone signs up for. (It just occurred to me that some people do actually sign up for it. My uro explained that it’s a fetish for some. I told him he didn’t have to worry about that with me lol).

I had a stricture about a year or so after SBRT I was bleeding and almost blocked. I had a dilation done last March 17th 2023 and it's holding up well.
He just went up and pressed a balloon like device for a couple of minutes. I was not awake.

These procedures may last but not always. Next step if it returns is Optilume which is the same balloon device but with "Taxol" on its exterior.
Taxol is an anti cancer drug that shuts down cells from producing hence ending the build up of scar tissue.
Hopefully the dilation is going to hold.
Dr Joice of Columbia Presbyterian did the procedure. I mentioned him because he's a real expert in reconstructive surgery.
