I have been on Zytiga with 5mg Prednisone for the past 6 years. Over the past couple years my eyesight has grown progressively worse. Now down to 20/100. Used to be 20/20.
I read that Prednisone may affect eyesight.
Anybody else dealing with that issue?

Bill, I didn't have any problems with prednisone, but lupron also has the potential for vision changes, and my view in my right eye dropped off the chart in 2020. And I had surgery for that problem late in 2020. I am still on lupron as it is helping me stay alive. Nobody has come out to say that it was lupron that caused my eyesight to worsen, but it was a dramatic change in vision in a one year period. Just my take.

Distinct possibility it may be Lupron. I have been doing the Lupron for 6 years as well. Going to bring that up with oncologist next month.

Bill, I had been on lupron 7 years in 2020 when the eye problems occurred. Keep us posted.

I wonder if eyesight will improve should it ever be found I no longer need the Lupron or Prednisone?

Well, my eyesight in the right eye only improved slightly after surgery. The diagnosis was that of macular hole. But who knows for sure how much is lupron involved or just getting older. I just know that the vision in my right eye dropped off the chart in one year after getting my yearly checkup.

Steriods such as prednisone are a risk factor for developing steroid-induced glaucoma. "Steroids cause changes in the aqueous fluid outflow system (trabecular meshwork, Schlemm’s canal, and the aqueous veins) resulting in increased eye pressure. This steroid response can occur in a few weeks, or in as little as a few days in highly sensitive people. If unrecognized, the steroid response can develop into steroid-induced glaucoma and cause permanent optic nerve damage."

I have been on ZYTIGA (Abiraterone Acetate) and 10 mg of PREDNISONE for years.

I had a vision issue in my right eye last year, with the sudden emergence of "floaters."

Quite concerned, I consulted with my oncologist and two ophthalmologists.

I was assured that my oncology medications were not the cause. It was stated that the daily dose I take of PREDNISONE is considered quite small.

That being said, it was recommended I start using comfort drops for both eyes.

As well, I find myself driving less after sunset. Seems that other friends of mine are doing the same, as we "get a little older."

I'm more apt to go out for lunch than dinner, more apt to head home before sunset, more apt to get errands done during the day, and more apt to go to a matinee than an evening movie or stage production.

It's important to remain vigilant, in all health matters.

From long term prednisone use and/or high dosage, -The most concerning potential side effects of the eyes can be glaucoma and cataracts.
Add in aging related deterioration or a combination of both in your case.
Mine went south mid 60’s (age not summer of love decade) and ended up getting cataract surgery.

I doubt that the prednisone is a problem. Zytiga causes a cortisol depletion and the prednisone is merely to replace that. It's not like you are taking steroids for a condition.

Cyclone — Floaters are very common.. I have had them for years before PCa came into my life. That said, I have noticed a steady deterioration in my night vision in recent years. Have some small cataracts, but have eschewed surgery because I also have severe astigmatism. I know two people with astigmatism who did cataract surgery, and things did not go smoothly at all. Like you my main coping mechanism is doing “matinees” as much as possible. Roads are too dangerous at night in the event… Bill

I've been of Zytiga with 5mg prednisone for 2 1/2 years, was on intermittent Firmagon and then Lupron for 4 years before that. So far no changes in vision. I had an eye exam in April. Eyeglass prescription unchanged for at least 3 years.
