Lung Mets

Hi everyone. Unfortunately, I’m back after a couple years of things going smoothly for Dads prostate cancer. His PSA is still undetectable and he’s doing pretty well with the mets to ribs. They have stayed the same size. He has a pelvic lymph node that doubled from February to May, even while being on Erleada. They were able to radiate that spot and he has been finished for about 3 weeks. It was the cause of terrible leg pain for him. So bad that he hasn’t worked his summer retirement job and spends a lot of time laying around when he is usually very active. He had been on Erleada but since the lymph node grew, they changed him to Lynparza. That screwed up his labs so he hasn’t been on that since about May. He also had to have a stent put in his right ureter so that the kidney would drain all the way. His kidney function labs were bad but they are slowly coming around. The plan is to hopefully get him back on lynparza soon. He is still taking the Lupron shot but they have also stopped the Xgeva due to labs (kidneys).
Finally had a leg ultrasound and found a DVT. They started him on Xelarta. He had a lot of blood in urine one day after being on that. Back to ER. They did a CT and that is showing numerous (too many to count) lung nodules measuring up to 2cm. I am sick! This has happened since the last scan on May 30. Has anyone had this happen? We just lost my sister to Melanoma on April 10 and I am terrified now.

Yeah it has definitely been rough. I’m trying to research all I can. I just hope he is strong enough to handle the chemo, if that is the next option. I’m ready to get moving with this. I have not liked him not being on meds. I thought it has been since May but those might have been stopped in April. They say prostate cancer is usually pretty treatable but I’m still scared, especially since this has popped up since May 30. It’s also so strange that he develops mets when his PSA is undetectable.

I’m pretty sure that when he had PC mets to ribs his PSA was undetectable as well. Seems very strange. I hate the thought of anything in the lungs because I’ve always heard the chances are higher for it to go to the brain then.

Thank you for the information. I try to research as much as I can. I scare myself as I read that once stage 4 patients only live 3-5 years. He went to stage 4 in September of 21. So with numerous lung nodules in the bilateral lung bases measuring up to 2cm bilaterally is really freaking me out. It just takes me back to my sister and her melanoma battle. I think melanoma is harder to treat tho and do try to refrain from comparing. The melanoma went to her brain and that is the most terrifying for me. I watched her go from one of the most intelligent people I knew to not knowing the day or able to tell time. I don’t want things to be sugar coated but would also love some true reinforcement.
