I had my prostate removed on January 2, 2024. It has been 8 months since the catheter was taken out. I have done at least 100 kegels a day since and physical therapy exercises daily since May. My bladder only holds 4 oz of urine when I am standing up. Does this get better over time?

So the trick to kegels after surgery is not to do them always in the same position.

1) Do some laying on your back
2) Do some laying on your right side
3) Do some laying on your left side
4) do some sitting
5) Do some standing
6) Stand with your feet just below your hips with hands on your hips and bend your knees a little, and kegel
7) Stand with your feet just below your hips with hands on your hips and lean to your right a little and kegel
8) Stand with your feet just below your hips with hands on your hips and lean to your left a little and kegel

Dont do all of the above at once, just dont always do kegels in the same position.

Other things:
When moving from a sitting position to standing remember to exhale (less pressure)

Caffeinated drinks may irritate your bladder, causing you to feel urgency.

I would do 10 each of the lying down ones just before bed.

The sitting down one anytime you think about it, watching tv, at a traffic light etc…

The standing up ones, you figure about 15 each.

Whatever gets you to 100 or so….spread throughout the day. Don’t bunch them up all at once otherwise you will become fatigued.

Hold for three seconds.

After a while hold for four seconds

Then five.

Make sure you are breathing as normal as possible.

I went to a physical therapist after my surgery and before radiation and these are the things they had me do.
