I'm leaving the hospital next Wednesday, December 11 with a catheter after focal cryoablation. My post-op and catheter removal had been scheduled for December 20, 9 days after the cryoablation. Yesterday I received a call that the December 20 appointment had been rescheduled for December 27. I called and asked why and was told that the December 20 appointment should not have been scheduled so soon after the procedure since the usual time to leave the catheter in is 14 days. I pushed back because I don't want to have the catheter in place during Christmas parties and family gatherings, one involving car travel of 2 hours each way. I told them if they would take me on December 20 I would hang around the hospital for 2 hours drinking lots of water to see if I urinate on my own and take the ultrasound void test. The nurse said she thought that was a good plan and would message the doctor to see if that's acceptable. Now I'm wondering if I'm being my usual worst enemy by over-managing my medical care. The last thing I want is to have it out on December 20, then have complications and have to go to ED on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day.
That would be worse than having it in until December 27.
To those who've had a catheter for an extended time, did you do okay during and right after removal?
