Post prostatectomy erections

In my case, I had severe incontinence and no erection after surgery. Initially, I was regularly going through 7-ish full size depends diapers per day. Faithfully doing Kegel exercises daily, I noticed gradual improvement with each passing month resulting in 1-ish fewer pads per day. By about the 8-month mark post surgery, I was nearly 100% continent, just using one small/light pad per day.

Regarding sexual activity, it took close to 6 months for me to achieve an erection.

Hello - Going back to work outside so soon is not helping matters but understand that some do not have much choice. Incontinence recovery varies between minimal like I experienced to many months (or never in some cases). There is nothing unusual about having control issues for months after catheter is removed.

You should have been practicing kegel exercises before surgery to prepare for this. If not, you should be now. When you are urinating, stop the flow with your internal muscles, that is what you try to strengthen in your spare time.

The urologist will be good to talk to about all issues at your next meeting.

Everyone is different and many factors are involved with both erection and incontinence such as age, other comorbidities, and successful nerve sparing surgery. So give it some time.

For me, I had night time erection a week after surgery while I still had the catheter installed. The first month the only incontinence was moderate stress incontinence like when I sit up from a chair or pick up moderately heavy object. After six months minimal stress incontinence when I lift heavy objects. This has never been a problem since the amount is only a couple milliliters of urine. It has been 14 years and I still have this slight stress incontinence.

Had RP on April 23, 2013. This was not robotic. Started walking within a couple of days of surgery. We live next to a large rural park by a lake so it was easy for me to access the trails daily. There was improvements in incontinence weekly and within a month, there was some activity down there. After a month, switched to my touring bike as my wife and I had a 2 month cycle tour in Europe starting on July 8th.
Left for Europe with a bag of pads in the bike box but as the incontinence was almost nothing, threw them away at our first campsite.
Enjoyed a good sex life with the help of Cialis when not too tired after riding all day.
Coming up 12 years this April with no incontinence and a pleasant sex life, undetectable, age 76 on April 22/25.

I had my surgery 17 yeras ago ,and I was very lucky in that I had rock hard errections the day the catheter was removed, and without taking any drugs like viagra,...... BUT......I could ONLY obtain errections with some sort manual estimulation. If the estimulation stopped, so would the errection, immediately.

After my surgery, I noticed that there was no more connection between my mind and my organ. Before surgery , just the simple thought of sex would give me an errection, but after surgery , i could think about sex for hours , and I would feel nothing down there until I had some sort physical stimulation of the organ. After all these years, it is still the same, no improvement , and thank god, not worse.

The other thing that was very different after my surgery is that when I climaxed, I ejaculated urine, I mean I ejaculated urine with such force, I could almost hit the cieling. When I had my prostate, my seman would just dribble out when I ejaculated. Also I noticed after my surgery, my orgasm only lasted one o two seconds at the most , and with only two ejaculations of urine y no more. Where as before my surgery, it would last 5 to 7 seconds with multiple ejaculations of seman. Still to this day after 17 years, it is the same, it has not improved.

I am content with my decision to have the surgery because I have no more cancer. But since I had only G6, sometimes regret my decision to have surgery , and I think maybe I should have reserached into having brachytherapy seed implants. From what I read here, many of the guys who had brachytherapy, have had no problems with ED over the years.
