Hi Ken and welcome to the board,
We had a very similar situation as yours. We went back in to have the cath removed and go over the pathology report. The doctor told us all the margins were clear and that "you'll just have to find something else to die from"! You can imagine how elated we were. I asked for a copy of the pathology report for our records.
After we got home and I was going over it, I read: Perineural invasion yes, focally identified.
We were also concerned about this. When we went back in four weeks later, I was going to ask our doctor what exactly that meant. Unfortunately, he was called out on an emergency but his associate came in to see us instead so we asked him. He told us that it meant there was cancer around the nerve but that there was a controversy among doctors about what this meant. He said that one side believes that because pc can only travel through blood cells, it couldn't travel through the nerves. The other side believes it can.
I don't know what to think! If we believe our doctor, who is very good, the best in the state, (our primary physician called him the "guru" of prostat cancer and he came very highly recommended on several fronts), then we are good to go.
We would also be interested in what others know about this.
