Bladder neck Contracture due to Scar tissue

I am scheduled this Friday for TUI (Transurethral incision) to clear some scar tissue from where the reconstructon was done during the prostatectomy, I was told by my doctor that I am at a 11F - 12 F and the opening should be at 16F, this has caused a voiding problem and several urinary track infections over the past several months. Going to the bathroom is abot a 5 minute ordeal so it will be nice to get some flow back, After this is done I will be looking at a male sling or Artificial sphincter to get the    Incontinence under control I wish it could be the other way around but have to fix the scar tissue first) I use 2 pads a day occassionally 3, this part has been the most trying part of the whole process I can not remember what it is like to be dry anymore.   At any rate my questions are:   1. Has anyone in the forum had a TUI, I am curious about if it is very painful afterwards   2. Any information or good websites that compares male slings or a rtificial sphincter so I can research these options   I do have a great doctor (Dr. Allen Morey UT South western Dallas Tx) who specializes in correcting post prostatectomy issues    Thanks in advance for your assistance

Hello and welcome Webster, glad you found us here at HW.

I had the same correction done for the same reason on January 13th of this year. This was on day 63 after my open surgery, I was on a total of 5 catheters. Twice they were removed, and twice I had total blockage within hours. One cath was put back in at my drs office, the other was through local ER which was a terrible experience. I was put under completely, my choice, didn't want a spinal, and my dr opened me up. He left me with my 5th and final catheter, a real thick one for 6 more days to heal from the correction. After he took it out, I have been able to void, though not like the race horse I was pre-surgery. My dr had a difficult time during my main surgery connection the urethra back to the bladder neck, so it complicated things for me. I hope yours goes well for you. My dr. even gave me colored photos of before and after, so I could see the difference with the opening.

Purgatory, thanks, I guess I am a little nervous mostly since I leak some now, my Dr. told me once they open it up I may leak more, they did a test and it appears that I have about 75% control. once the TUI has healed (about 8 weeks) pretty much I have been told to get dry it will take something to assist so I am trying to get as much info as possible on my options so I can make a decission on the best route to go.

the incontiences is a drag, but it sure beats the hell out of having cancer

I too have had a bladder neck contracture. At first Dr tried to expand it which worked briefly. I then had the TUI and the contracture was corrected although I did have quite a bit of leaking afterword. Dr advised 2 x a day self-cath. After about 3 weeks the contracture returned and I went in for another round of TUI. It has now been 7 weeks since the last TUI and things have finally begun to work as expected. Little or no leaking (0 pads). PSA=0. Still self-cath 2 x a day. Go to 1 x a day in 3 weeks. I would hold off on the artificial sphincter and see if things clear up on there own.

Biospy only 1 needle out of 12 with 1% cancer cells.
Organ cancer contained.
