Movember and Prostate Cancer Support

A quick web search does make these guys seem legitimate. They started in Australia about 6 years ago and have only recently moved to the U.S. in the last year or two. In Australia they have attracted corporate support from some pretty mainstream organizations. One Australian charity guide lists their fund raising expenses as 8% of the amount raised which they say is about half the average for Australian charities.

The only controversy I could find is that originally one of their areas was men's mental health (depression) and they seem to have dropped (or downplayed) that causing hard feelings among those who thought this should be a priority

Yes we here in Australia, started the Movember Idea, some 5-6 years ago.  The basic idea behind it, beside raising revenue for cancer research groups of course, was that by growing a Mo, it intiated conversation amoungst your male friends.  This giving you the opportunity to talk about prostate cancer awareness.  I have just started growing mine, (I needed to get a head start, before the 1st of November), and I am amazed the amount of guys that comment on it.  I have already managed to speak to three blokes about PSA blood testing and seeing their doctor for a check up.  A simple but very good idea, don't you think ?

So come on guys, how about starting it up here on HW, "Go the Mo"
