Passing surgical clips

Sorry to hear this Taylor.

I passed a surgical clip after several days of convalescing. I also passed a quarter-sized blood clot the same day. Like you, when I called the doctor he was very casual about it. That was eight weeks ago and nothing further has developed.

I must admit that I am fascinated at the concept of "Passing" clips.
How can you pass clips? To pass them, they have to get into the bladder/urethra.
I was alarmed when I saw all those bloody bobby-pins in the abdomen, and wondered what problems they would be making in the future. They are hardly 'Blunt', and I often feel these sharp stabs and think 'Those rotten clips'.

All I can think is that ( Post-Op ) - clips have 'stabbed' your bladder and then been pulled off the vein etc. that they were closing.
The clips have then migrated (by the muscle action) into the bladder from where they have been passed. What has happened to the veins etc. from where they came??
After my Op, I saw the Cysto-gram being processed and remarked at the many "Smoke Trails" from the bladder.. The operator commented "You sure have a lot of leaks".

One would assume that if clips can stab and migrate thru the bladder, then they must leave holes that then have to heal.

I don't understand why they have not developed "C" closures that will wrap and clamp, without ANY sharp points to stab and dig for the rest of your life.. This is my only real concern for my continued life... The shrapnel left after the RRP...

20K is an expensive clip. Keep that for the grandkids - "Here is where one year of your college fund went ...."

OK guys, 6 years after you all posted here; I'm stunned at the idea of "passing" this 1/8th inch plastic clip. I've had two pulled out and thankfully wasn't awake for either event. My radical prostechomy was in '06 and I've had bladder stones wrapped around plastic clips two out of three times in the last three years. And yes, the Doctor says "Happens all the time." Two things that would have caused me to wait and watch alot longer was 1) that plastic clips would cause bleeding, pain and incontinence for years and 2) that it would make my penis and inch shorter. My cancer was organ confined, only one of the twelve biopsy were positive and the Gleason scores were even ( 3 & 3 ). The PSA numbers were elevated because of a prior bladder infection. In short, I should have waited. But that's not what was advised to do. However the Doctors have a "secret handshake" going on where they all agree to say that it's ok. RSVP
