Would like opinions on my PSA history. 62 year old male, stage 4 lymphoma 8/2009,absolutely clean now....

March 2009.....7

Oct 2009.....10.1

March 2010.....2.5

April 2010.....5.4

Sept 2010....4.4

May 2011....5.9

Had a saturation biopsy (35 cores) in November 2009.....all clear nothing suspicious

Opinions? Thanks!

What does your member name mean? bdfxx....could have some over the top hidden meanings, which I got curious about. Great that you hopefully beat lymphoma, I have opinions and today I am giving low doseage...referral for info at:

zufus, I must admit that other than a slight touch of paranoia about the user name, I cannot understand a thing about your reply. Has my weeklong battle with the creeping crud with its accompaning pills and drugs scrambled my brain or what? Sorry, none of it makes any sense to me, pity the new member trying to figure it out... smilewinkgrin smhair devil Care to elaborate?

I was curious about his name just for fun and such I think it has a funny reference via my Kreskin like guessing abilities, some guys have great sense's of humor, the double xx's leave alot to your imagination (lol).

The reference is to prostatitus being one possible cause, with a weblink.

It's all good, I am just having fun at this juncture...in case you haven't noticed.

Random up and down movements of psa are usually due to prosti***. Since you have had a clear saturation biopsy this is the most likely DX.
PC is usually indicated by a consistant rise in psa over time as the tumor increases at a constant rate.

I would make of it:

Chronic Prostatitis

Zufus 2.0 is just as confusing as Zufus 1.0.

We need a Zufus 2.0 SP-1

Looks like prostatitis to me. I had a PSA that bounced around and prostatitis covered my PC. But it was picked up in a biopsy.

bdfxx- not hijacking the thread, although the flight got diverted to another terminal, we won't be on the tarmack much longer...prostatitus is a good clue.  Mel called me a cluer with my approval...hope you look into all that closely. Best to you and monitor psa's.

Mel- I am a bit curious as to what the SP-1 signifies, I highly doubt it is Special Person #1, although in the proper (LOL) context maybe that is your thought (and I will send you a large check, 3rd party out of state too). cool

I think its the result of an infection too, with that 35 core biopsy, be hard to miss some PC with a PSA just prior of 10

bdfxx, so the consensus is prostatitus, what was the opinion of the urologist and is there another step he wants to take? That's a significant rise from sept to may, just saying!
BTW ,Kudos to you and your uro, him for aggressively looking for cancer, and you for taking all those clicks.

So far it's just been 'let's take another PSA in 6 months'. Have an appointment on June 14.

I am more confused than ever. PSA was 5.9 last month. Went to urologist who repeated test and PSA came back at 15. Once again PSA is all ver the place. Dr. wants to repeat the test in one month. As I reported earlier, I had a saturation biopsy 2 years ago with everything all clear..nothing even suspicious. This whole thing is making me crazy. Any thoughts? Thanks.

That's definitely a pretty wild swing.  Could it be a lab error?  Maybe you should try a different lab and see what they say.

This last PSA was taken at the hospital...Columbia Presbyterian in NYC.

Hi bdfxx, - Did you get a copy of the Pathology Report from your sturation Biopsy? Did it show evidence of chronic imflamation? Are you getting the PSA's done at the same Laboratory and done with the same assay material? You and your Doctor need to know whether the Laboratory is using the WHO (World Health Organization) or the Hybritech Standardization for their reporting. It has been established that the WHO Standard results in readings 23% lower than the Hybritech results. - John@newPCa.org (aka) az4peaks
